I don't think they're counting this as a win, certainly no more than we are. From what I've been reading, they were hoping for this draw because Iowa State provided them the most favorable matchup (as opposed to Texas Tech). Same reason why most hear would take Minnesota over Michigan State.
We'll have at least that many fans there, because of all the Minnesotans that winter in AZ.

I know not everyone wanted the same team, but some said they'd rather play Minn that MSU but look at who beat who (and yes I know the transitive property doesn't work in football.) I firmly believe beggars can't be choosers, so I am just downright happy for the bowl game!
Minnesotans are pretty cool for the most part and a couple of my best buddies who are hardcore Cyclones are from Minny. I think we have a decent following for ISU there so I think it should hopefully make for some fun football, drinking games, and BRINGING IN A HAPPY NEW YEAR in (hopefully) sun and heat rather than cold as balls Minn or Iowa.
In all fairness, they could easily do that with our schedule and come to the same conclusion. As thrilled as the Iowa State faithful is about going to a bowl game (including myself), this is truly a matchup of two very mediocre teams which should be very competitive.

KSU: 5-7
Army: 5-6 (Navy game left)
BU: 4-8 (One conference win)
NU: 9-4 (only good win, really)
CU: 3-9
Combined: 29-42

I was wondering when someone would say it...
To give some perspective, 3 seasons ago I had a LOT of the Gopher fans ask me, "Who's Texas Tech? Are they any good?"
Gopher fans aren't the most educated sports fans around. I remember when we played them first round of the NCAA basketball tourney a few years ago...most of them thought they were playing Iowa.
The "pro" sports radio hosts up here were making fun of Alford and rehashing the Pierre Pierce incident for nearly an hour before an ISU alum finally called in and explained to them the difference between Iowa and Iowa State.
It's really pathetic. They just can't wrap their heads around the fact that Iowa has two major schools.
To be honest, their ignorance and "hate all things Iowa" mentality is the reason you'll catch me in black and gold cheering for the state of Iowa when the Hawks come to play the Gophers. I hate Iowa...but not like I hate Minnesota.
