I'm curious; how much money does Stevie / Euro players make? Does a contract with Iowa Energy pay more?

Unless you are on a NBA contract the D-League players don't make nearly as much as you would overseas.

I dont even think its close, you can make great money overseas if you can stand to live there. The D league and others like it over here pay very little. You'd pretty much have to have another job to pay the bills.

I'm not sure how much Stevie is making but I know Homan made 180k-200k his first couple years in Europe. I don't think NBDL players make more than 60k(probably less) unless there are under contract with a pro team.

that's what I thought. Unless Stevie has a longing desire to move back to the US / Iowa, I can't see why he'd want to take that much of a pay cut..........Then again, if he's still dating Tracy Gahan, I don't blaming him for moving (PS: I thought she was playing in Australia, or some thing like that).

Paul Shirley's book said he made good money playing overseas. Anybody ever know what happenned to Martin Rancik, he has to be playing pro ball somewhere?

D League players don't even make more than $25,000 from the people I have talked to that are close to players.

If the NBA ever wants the best talent NOT in the NBA to play in the D-League they are going to HAVE to offer development contracts and have the big teams pay the players...

I'm glad you all enjoyed the article. Hopefully I can answer any questions you guys have. I will write a lot on the NBA, but I also will cover guys that kinda leave the radar screen overseas too.

My thoughts are that most scouts only focus on guys 16 to 19 years old. Especially after a player turns 22 and heads overseas. Any progress they make on their game draws zero attention.

What I can say is Stevie is interested in the D League and he loves Iowa. Most players overseas take a pay cut to play in the D League. But Euro salaries are really on the decline. Not many guys make Marcus Fizer money overseas. Also sadly, Marcus had to shut his game down with at least a season ending injury.

Hopefully ISU fans will support Stevie. What I encourage you all to do is write the Iowa Energy. All their emails and numbers are on their D league website. Bottomline is their attendence (like most D league teams) isn't all that great. If Iowa fans want Stevie, then I would imagine they (Energy) would go the extra distance to collaborate with his agent to get the deal done.

The Energy picked up Jeff Horner before the NBDL draft because of his connection to Iowa. The Energy need to offer Stevie the same deal. I mentioned a few other players in my article who all have the same agent.

It is up to all you bloggers and fans to let them know what you want to see happen.

nbdl contracts start at under 20k a year. Johnson is likely getting 7 to 9k per month as an import in the LEB. its a lot. If he gets paid at the top level in the NBDL he'd still be giving up some money to play in the D League.

Overseas you are looking between $150k - 1mil + depending on your level of talent. It also seems the international players like Martin and Jiri make more because they don't take up one of the two spots for a US player.

The D-League on the other hand pays minimal at best. Probably between 20k - 40k if you don't have the NBA contract. This is what I have gathered from the individuals I know who played in the leagues.

I agree if they want to be the Minor leagues of the NBA and have the best of the rest they will have to up their pay.
