Meh, he maybe had more of a beef with Alvarez but Askren's beef has most certainly been with the wrestling program and current and previous head coaches. Regardless, I don't think Ben ever makes the move to a D1 job. I'd actually bet on Max doing so over Ben. I think Ben's best situation would be that he get's to keep running Askren Wrestling Academy and then either Max, or one of his guys like Nick Becker, get the UW-Madison job and he get's to funnel guys that way.

Right now running AWA is a pretty sick gig. They've got 7 locations across south central Wisconsin, their dominance draws so many youth wrestlers there year round. He's got to be making great money as is. At Wisconsin state tournament last weekend AWA had 28 state champs (out of a possible 56 across 3 classes plus girls) and 130 placers. It's insane.
Yeah their alumni is pretty impressive, just think if Wisconsin could get them.... Like I said a sleeping giant if the right coach is there.

Ben has it made right now and he's having a huge impact on the sport and the state of Wisconsin. I agree, I don't see him leaving now that this monster has been built. Maybe he wants to try his hand at D1 and goes that route when Smith leaves, but I can't see it happening. I don't think he likes the bureaucracy and politics of being employed at a University and being told what to do or what not to say. He also doesn't like wearing shoes

I know Ben is their mentor and club coach, but it's hard to believe none of these kids want to stay home and compete in front of friends and family and attend a pretty cool university like UW. I know people don't really like Bono, but Reader is a likeable guy.

Trust me, it gets talked about a lot around these parts!

You can add to that list… Millard at Minnesota. Haakon Peterson going to Michigan. Kellen Wolbert to Ok State.

It won’t be enough to catch PSU but they are set up pretty well for the future.

DeLuca
Bassett (probably his brothers too)
Arnold
Angelo
Ludington
Kueter

Probably missing a high level recruit or two. Not to mention they’ll always be a player for high level transfers.

Like you said, probably good for 2-5th every year but is that good enough?
Arnold is pretty meh. Same with Kueter.

I mean I would bet that both AA this year, probably 7th or 8th, but hey I'd take it. Also Arnold has progressed a lot more than Knaak, which I am surprised by.
Arnold was significantly better than Naak coming out of HS. Don’t let their close matches fool you. Arnold is not an offensive Dynamo, and familiarity played a part. Arnold was the #5 overall recruit in the class and Naak was mid-30s. There are significant differences in expectations between those two ranks.

Would not chalk up the difference between them to development or progression. This is what would have been expected.

SIAP in a wrestling thread. Couldn’t watch this weekend and could only listen to big 12 conf tourney. Catching up on big 10 finals now and am totally confused. First, when they said it was in Chicago I thought united center but it’s in rinky-dink welsh Ryan? Second they couldn’t even get big 10 branded mats and just used northwestern’s?? Lastly, there are other matches going on at the same time??? You can barely hear the announcers if another mat has something exciting going on. They are without doubt the premier wrestling conference but wow this is unimpressive.

The pin by Byrd just now was impressive however.

B10 rotates universities as the host of their conference tourney, something the B12 should do. BOK Center in Tulsa is the B12 host every year. There could be a whole other thread as to why it stays in Tulsa and why it needs to change. They don't have B12 branded mats either. They are branded with BOK Center so they can host other events as well I assume. I agree I like the finals separate from all other matches, but not a fan of B12's 8pm CST start time. Do it sooner with placing matches or just run concurrent to B10, it's not like they are pulling huge viewing numbers at 8pm anyway.

I wonder why they don’t rotate it to Wells Fargo arena in DSM? ISU and UNI would put more butts in seats than the BOK center does. Our dual attendance has regularly been better than OSU in the recent past at least so it confuses me if environment is the most important factor

I thought the coaches have tired Omaha and somewhere in South Dakota/Iowa, maybe Sioux Falls or somewhere.

I think it is put up for bid and Tulsa always wins the bids.

Wells Fargo is busy this time of year unfortunately with State Basketball.
