New article in the Atlantic tries to argue that Kansas is America's team. I sincerely hope the writer's tongue is planted firmly in his cheek, 'cause KU 'effin SUCKS.

March Madness: If You Root Against Kansas, You Root Against America - Hampton Stevens - Culture - The Atlantic

Remember when KU fans used to think ISU had thugs just because Tinsley, etc had a few tats? Now they field the tatted thug twins, have Morningstar talking trash to a team they are beating by 20 and getting T'd up, and almost get into a fight before the game starts by messing with the Richmond huddle.

Can't wait to hear your fans start their gloating, unsportsmanlike chant in another minute or two. And LOL at your fans booing every call that went against you all weekend in Tulsa.

You stay classy, KU. America's team my ***.

I'd probably go with Duke over Kansas. More people hate Duke, I think. If that's the standard that you want to use.

It's amazing how teams that have a lot of jerk fans and the vast majority of fans have no connection to the school are hated, huh?

Butler=America's team. Gritty, hardworking, no excuses, roll up the sleeves, never say die, true-blooded Americans. Butler represents America. Well, maybe not now, with everyone being a SOFT trash-talking, all bark & no bite, pussywillows. One can look at the fools that banned dodgeball in school for this.

America's team would probably be the Conference USA champion... right?? So this year, it's Memphis.

Now this kind of argument gets old to me. IMO, a "Tavernhok" is somebody who fits the following description: 1. Did not attend the U of I, and 2. Can not name more than 10 players on the football team.

Not attending the university that you root for is not a big deal. You do realize that the majority of the better athletic departments have fan bases with LARGE numbers of those non-alum fans, right?

Here's the thing with the 'tavernhawk'.

Most ISU fans have discovered that when one of Iowa's fans is a ******bag, they are more than likely to not be alums of the school. Not all of the non-alums fit that description, but a sizable proportion do. By contrast, the alums of iowa are usually much more likely to be classy fans.

Nothing wrong with the classy non-alum fans, and id welcome non-alums of ISU as fans, as long as they dont do\say stupid **** to make us look bad like a lot of Tavernhawks do for iowa.

I'd add a third option to your list:
3. Talks **** and acts as if they know what they are talking about w.r.t. the football team.

There's nothing wrong with not knowing the roster, so long as you don't try and talk crap.

Yeah, forgot to add that, just sort of assumed it. I think talking crap, as long as you know your stuff, is okay. The ones who can't name 10 players who talk crap get on my nerves too.

Excuse me, but did I say anything about Iowa specifically? I was just saying that by and large teams that have large fanbases have a lot of fans that are kind of jerks and are hated in the eyes of a lot of people... geeze, I don't always take shots at EIU.

You love 'em, or you hate 'em, but the New York Yankees are America's team as it is the one American team almost anyone worldwide who follows sports knows anything about. Dallas, Duke, KU, etc. are only known to a few dedicated international sports fans, or by ex-patriot Americans overseas. I speak from experience as a former ex-patriot. Anyone discussing any other team being "America's Team" is either joking, or totally ignorant. End of discussion.
