Anyone recommend some place good and won't rip you off in Des Moines. Normally I'm still asleep right now but the wife woke me up and said the furnance was making a strange noise. I turned the thermostat down and let it shut off, turned it back up and doesn't seem to be coming back on at all  Had The Golden Rule check it in Dec. and thought they were a little pricey so any suggestions?

Well I guess it just kicked back in but it still seems noisier than usual when you stand right by the furnance, hmmmm....

I had the same issue this morning. I went outsdie and my inlet ipe (the one that sucks air) was full of snow and ice. Once I cleared it out, everything was ok.

We've had issues (on a 7 year old house which should be in good shape)...we set the temp at 64 for sleep and woke up today and it said 55....no wonder I froze last night.

We had City Wide install a new one this past year. The price was reasonable and it works great .....except for the squeak or beep it makes every time it turns on. That's getting a little annoying.

Bob Oliver Heating and Cooling in West Des Moines. They will come out and service (clean, check, etc.) your furnance for $79. I was having similar problems with it shutting off a lot. Turns out the ignitor was bad...they replaced it for $60.

The furnace was service and fixed for less than $150...I was happy with them.

I know a guy that will check your furnace for 50 bucks. He checked mine and did a very thorough inspection. I'm not sure if he does repairs but you could always check. PM me if you want info.

Think I found my guy, called in a favor from someone that has a son that works on them. Hopefully nothing big and strangely it sounded fine again when I left the house awhile ago. Vents outside are plenty clear, hoping its something simple. Still blowing hot air and kicking in like it should so that is a good deal but it was making noises I hadn't heard before.

I'll never use The Golden Rule again after I had them out for a plumbing repair and furnace check in December. They charge by the job not the hour but was terribly over-priced I think. I declined about another $450 of work that could wait that they wanted to do that I'm pretty sure I could get done for much less than that. They wanted $180 to replace a saddle valve on a pipe, pretty sure for a $6.50 part you can get that done a lot cheaper!

Wycoff is family owned and they are great. Sometimes they will do a repair right over the phone if it's something they think you can fix on your own and not charge you. They walked me through some steps when my furnace was blowing cold air. I thought I was going to be in for a 500 dollar bill. THey helped me out and I fixed it for free. Good people. Not a rip off company.
