They're on SiFy for computers, smart phones and they spend money advertising that they're free. I've heard there may be a charge for resources within the game? What's the catch? There must be a charge somewhere.

While I have no idea why you're asking about an India-based IT firm, the model you're referencing is Free to Play (F2P), or "freemium". Apps charge nothing upfront, letting you play for free, while offering in-app purchases as an option.

The games can be played without every buying anything. But, unless you drop some cash in-game, you may have to grind your play longer to earn items/levels, or not have access to certain items/levels at all. Sometimes these free games will also play ads, then offer you to remove them by paying another fee. It's a trade-off for getting paid upfront, for hoping that people are willing to drop the money to advance quicker. And even if they don't, you can still generate revenue through placing ads throughout the game.

Quite common. Just beware that sometimes your mobile stores have 'quick pay' options that can make it incredibly easy to accidentally buy a huge in-game item (like a $99.99 pack).

Games that are free to play often contain ads, just like this site. Nothing is really ever free. You're paying for it one way or another.
