If Fran understood modern basketball Perkins would’ve been a big point guard from day one.
They were really dynamic when he was getting downhill. It made more space for shooters and drew defenders off freeman and whomever else was in at the 5 for dunks. Usually this was when they were down big and had scrapped the game-plan.

Fran just refused to use the 1 actual PG on his team for extended stretches.

Even when it was working in normal game flow, PMac would sub in and do his dribble to nowhere and then Dix would get his turn dribbling to nowhere. And eventually all momentum was lost.

Dix and Harding can’t break down the defense. Harding’s ceiling is poor man’s Jacy Holloway.

12-2 in the games Perkins had 5 or more assists.

Some are happy that he is leaving. Perkins is a good player, second team all Big Ten. The bigger problem is that Iowa don’t have anyone like him in their roster next year. Desante Bowen is also leaving so they have Dix and Harding. Can you imagine them guarding athletic guards?
We don't have to imagine, we are going to have the pleasure of watching the hawks try to guard our backcourt next season!

Way up there
Perkins is the worst possible loss they could have, they don't have anyone with a skillset that's even comparable to him. He's not their best player but his role is huge for their offense. If he had come back, they'd be a lock to make the tourney next year but without a big pickup in the portal (not Fran's specialty), they will just be a bunch of guys standing around waiting to shoot, it could be NIT again.

I disagree. He is the best player.
