Has anyone ever gone to this place on a Friday or Saturday night? I've driven by it a million times and never really thought much about it. I was looking for a place with karaoke and it looks like they have it nightly? How is it? Is it a good place for students to hang out at or is it a different age crowd?

That place is a total dump.

When I was living in Ames there was a running joke where we'd call it the "ox on" since the owners never took the time to fix the sign on the side of the building. Their "F" and "O" fell off long ago.

If you want Karaoke with every towny wierdo in ames, you need to go to tradewinds (downtown ames, conveniently located next to dangerous curves). every time I was there something made me say "WTF"? totally worth it, if you are in fact only looking to laugh at townys and aren't actually looking to enjoy karaoke.

I have been there once, about 5 years ago. My friend lived in an apartment down the street from there. We went there after a football game. Let me tell you, if you are not a regular there they don't make you feel very welcome. We did each get a free beer though because we didn't have any cash on us and they didn't take debit or credit cards.

If you're a hard core college student, not your style, but if you are old enough to have a good time wherever you go, its not too bad during some Karaoke. Mostly an older hangout, but so was Whiskey River, Welch Ave and a few other bars I really liked back in tha day. But overall... not that great if you have many other options.

An Ames Classic.

When I first turned 21 it was imperative to be seen at certain places in Campustown, to "get my club on." I wasted a lot of time trying to get in and get served. Then I had an epiphany, and started spending more time at places like this.

No lines. Cold Beer. Good service. A couple of my friends met their wives there.

Tradewinds closed earlier this year.

We used to go there back in the day (2002-2004) when we were bored with the same crap welch offered. Also went to Tradewinds too. I remember the Fox being so smoky that it was almost unbearable. No ventilation at all. Of course those days are over now. I guess all I can say about the Fox is that it is a place where you will have fun if you want to have a good time. Fun will not find you.

The Fox was *the deal* back in the early-to-mid-90's. I even bartended there while I was working on my degree. For old time's sake, went back with friends last summer. Kathy, the owner, was there but looked like she was going through chemo. Looked pretty much the same, but actually, I think it would have smelled better IF smoking was still allowed...

I drive by it quite often and there's pretty much always cars there, but have no idea what today's crowd is like. Try it, it's either a diamond in the rough or just dirty carbon...

Wednesday night was Ag night when i was in school. never went there other than that night though. lots of great memories at that bar

Funny that this thread pops up today and you mention this.

I was in class this morning and some of my classmates (Ag-related) were talking about their night at the Fox 1. I guess Ag night is still around on Wednesday nights? I have never really heard anyone else talk about going there. I'll have to check it out sometime. I definitely need to mix up going to Welch/downtown though. Welch is starting to get old for me... (not that it can't be a good time)

Broke up with a girlfriend in the parking lot of the Fox. I loved that place when I was going to school. The owner Kathy was the best and they had good happy hour specials.

That bar isn't the funnest and has a pretty weird crowd, but I will always remember it... it was the 1st bar I went to at Iowa State, back when I was 18. I was very amazed by $5 all-you-can drink, and how they kept refilling our pitchers and glasses. The beginning of a life-long love affair with bars.

I used to live on S. 5th Street and had a friend who was a bartender there. It was close to my place of dwelling, and fairly cheap. I didn't mind it at all. A lot of Ag people used to go there if I recall.

I LOVE the Foxx. The karaoke is hilarious. It's probably not supposed to be funny, but there's a lot of people that that you just can't help but laugh at. On top of that, the drinks are cheap. They'll give you a whole glass of shots and a sleeve of plastic shot glasses for like $13. We might go there post-game tomorrow.
