tek71, I am so sorry for your loss. Like others, I can't imagine what you are going through. My family is sending prayers your way.

Claire passed away last night but went to organ donation surgery tonight. We have a match for her kidneys (both to one person), liver and heart. Two of the recipients were hospitalized awaiting a donor. Carson had his organ donation surgery last night and his organs have been transplanted, his liver to 1 person and kidneys to 2 others. Chase, our 3 yr old had to have a neck brace today so that was a small step back. Heather had her 1st of several surgeries today. All appears to have gone well. She's still critical but stable still. Thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers.

this thread really has put some things into perspective for me. It's amazing how we dwell on the trivial things and miss out on the wonderful things we have.

Having young kids about the same age it tears me up to hear about something like this. My heart goes out to you and your family.

This is such a heart-breaking story, but in this misery there are families whose children are receiving organ donations because of the DeJoode's family's generosity.

While this board is just a bunch of (mostly) strangers whose only real connection is an interest in Iowa State sports, it is a moment when we realize we are all bound by the larger brotherhood of man. While none of us can imagine the pain that this family is going through, we are all certainly grieving the loss of two innocent children.

Those children have provided a great gift to other children somewhere. God bless them and their family. Continued prayers to everyone involved and do continue to let us know how we can be of help in this time of need.

For real. It just feels like a bad nightmare to me. Can't even imagine being close to the situation, and hope I never have to. Thoughts and prayers still going out to the family...

Two days after first reading this, I am still entirely without appropriate words to express my sadness for your unfathomable loss...

I am processing it all today...as I have been traveling, and didn't watch the local news. Heartbreaking.

Tec71 - I thought the statement you released was well thought out and amazing. With your heart breaking I cannot imagine how you have been as strong as you have the last few days. I know you are probably still in a state of shock over everything that has transpired over the last few days, but know that there are many who have you and your family in our hearts and minds, and will for a long time. I hope your son gets to come home soon and that your wife continues to make strides every day. You're in our family's prayers, and our church's.
