Look at it this way, Iowa has kept a coach around for 74 years that has peaked at the same level it took Campbell 5 years to get to.

I get being disappointed by this start. But I'm seeing too many posts that are way to questioning of the overall direction of this program.

No doubt we that we have not adjusted to the "hunted role." As fans, we have not adjusted to this situation. I would be more negative, but we are 4-5 plays from being 4-0.

It is no longer a talent issue..........it is eliminating three plays a game. Three very fixable plays vs talent issues.

We have not learned to play with a target on our back. That’s what makes great teams great, they continue to win while still getting every opponent’s best shot. Maybe now that we will no longer be ranked for the rest of the season, we can go back to playing spoiler.

A good coaching staff addresses issues. This coaching staff just sticks it's head in the sand and chooses to ingore them. This will be their downfall and we're seeing it happen.

Last year's big issue was kickoffs. So they brought in Mevis. Problem mostly solved.

I'll admit to being wrong, I thought Dunn would be better than he's been. I'm guessing the coaching staff feels the same.

********. That's exactly what he's done. He didn't like the direction of the strength team. He messed with that. He's done a lot of messing around with the offensive staff. Maybe not the right moves yet, but he hasn't stood pat.

You guys are idiots if you think some comment he made in the post game press conference yesterday is indicative of any thing.

Over rating our talent is part of what sets us up for disappointment. The program is still abysmal at putting guys in the League. We have some (but very little) pro level talent on the current roster. There is a gap in raw talent against at least half of the teams we play. Campbell isn’t blowing smoke when he says the margins are thin at Iowa State. He and the staff have done a terrible job with margins so far. I think it’s reversible, but they better get busy.

I find it super funny you mf’ers think this is some super low moment. Live through the 80’s Clones and tell me about it. I’m as disappointed as the next dude but it’s ******* laughable that this is some super low point.

80s were better than the 90s and closer to the 2000s, just less bowls.

2 Quarters with no adjustments on D. Then shutdown after halftime! why can't this occur earlier?
Yes I'd love to see adjustments happen sooner but wouldn't you love to see what the defensive coaches are telling the players at halftime because it is just short of magic.

I don’t understand the “over the top” criticism about coaches, Purdy, OL, etc. And, lack of credit given to opponents who also have good coaches and athletes.

Campbell seems to be following Iowa and Kansas State‘s blueprint of conservative offense, strong defense and exceptional special teams. He has done a remarkable job thus far. If he can get the special teams figured out, he has a chance to achieve sustained success.

If you don’t like close games and conservative offenses, you may need to root for a different team. Right now that is ISU‘s best chance for success.

Considering only 4 teams make the playoff, any expectation for this was wildly optimistic. 8-10 wins seemed reasonable coming into the season. I don’t know if it will happen but it is still a possibility. Just enjoy the ride.

I still think a new offensive coordinator is needed to take that next step. Just not sold on Manning. Too conservative and predictable. Zero creativity.

It's tough to watch Iowa run misdirection and reverses every week, and we can't even run our two-point play we've probably practiced since the spring.

Manning is getting bailed out by a couple of special RBs in Montgomery and Hall.

Quite simply all of the "win the margins" stuff is nothing but smoke at this point. We lose games because we continuously make disastrous mistakes. We win games because we have good talent.

Like others have said, I've lived through some really lean years of ISU football so I'm incredibly happy with the program. But the fact is, we had justifiably high hopes for this team and for all intents and purposes 4 games in it's likely none of it will be achieved and that sucks. I honestly feel bad for the guys that came back, because obviously this isn't what they came back for. I'm not mad about the game, because just like the 4 turnovers versus Iowa if you absolutely suck on special teams, you're going to lose. It's kind of like when you have a little kid, and they are throwing a fit and you're just calmly telling them to chill out, and they do something like run their head into the countertop or something. You're not happy that they hurt themselves, but you're not particularly bothered by it either.
You are missing the point. It's not smoke because what he is preaching is that we have to win in the margins. The fact that they are failing in the margins and losing reinforces his point - the only way they will begin winning again is to get those issues fixed.

Love the optimism but we are not 4-5 plays from being 4-0. We played horribly in the CyHawk game and honestly, until they went prevent, we were awful on offense. We are a good team, we just have to clean things up. Kansas will be a nice confidence booster next week.
