I don't know whether to blame Gene or the coordinators, but he's ultimately responsible for the record, the strange game day decisions and lousy clock management we saw last year. He didn't show us he's a good head coach but maybe he will luck out with his new coordinators and do ok at Auburn, but I doubt it. I'm just very glad he's gone and we have a new start with PR. Anybody know if our practices/scrimmages will be open to the public?

PR said that practices are open to the public, but you have to call ahead and get your name on a list prior to practice. Thats the way things were the last time he was on the Monday call in show when Coach Mac was at the Big 12 tourny.

Not much of consequence has happened, really. They can't practice with a football, so it's tough to draw much aside from getting faster.

They can have "informal" 7on7, which ISU and all programs do in the winter and summer. Coaches sometimes just by pure coincidence stumble into the facility while it is going on at times.

Do coaches get the change to work with players at all during the off season like in BB?

Officially no in terms of on-field work. Can work with them in the meeting room. While it isn't officially practice, the on-field work in terms of 7on7 and drills really goes on year round though and the coaching staff is well aware of what is taking place, who is making progress and who isn't.

I still think Gene is a good football coach, but he was out of his element, especially in terms of the staff he assembled.
i agree with you. i just havent been able to bring myself to say it. i think hes a good coach, or will be, i just dont like him anymore. kinda like usc is a good football team but i dont like them at all either. different reasons of course.

A big part of being a good head coach is hiring and retaining a good staff. Gene may have been a good assistant coach or a good defensive coordinator, but he was not a good head coach.
