Football Intro Music?

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I feel it is worth another discussion. I think that we need to change the music as our football team enters the field. It seems as if we have been playing this same song for about 10 years. I am not sure what we should play but I feel it is time for a change. I don't think the players or the fans get that pumped for the song that we have been playing

The Ames Tornado siren would be really cool. If we mixed some good music after it, that would make it better. What does everyone think? Has the tornado siren thing been finalized yet?

I have faith in Mr. Pollard. Whatever we change it will be for the better!

I dont think anybody has said anything in opposition to the siren idea so i know its pretty big around the fan base in iowa. I have a list of songs i would like to hear:

Hells Bells-AC/DC

La Grange-ZZ Top

It's About time-VanHalen this is my #1 choice

Right Now- VanHalen

Poundcake-VanHalen

I'll Wait-VanHalen

Kashmir-Led Zeppelin

I picked some songs with a heavier tune in the beginning abd tried to imagine what it would be like with the sirens. I'll tried to create an iMix for anybody with iTunes to listen to all the songs but it would only let me publish La Grange because the others arent available in the music store (those cheap bastards!:) Oh well, i guess you'll have to make due with just the list.

I love the siren idea. I remember my first ISU football game that they played the sirens before it started and it was just a really cool way to get everyone pumped for the game. I can not remember when that game was but I do know that it was probably early 90's and there was still the astro turf for the field.

Kashmir by Led Zeppelin? Great song....doesn't fit intro music.... Lets go with the sirens and Thunderstruck by AC/DC. That is absolutely perfect.

Besides the Sirens (which I too like the idea of) I have always thought that "Running With The Devil" would make a great intro. It would have to be sped up just a bit. I could see the players bouncing waiting to run onto the field when the base is going and bolt onto the field once Eddie breaks into his guitar. Just a thought.

While we're discussing lists of songs that would be good openers... Although the subject of this one maybe has little relevance, it has an awesomely energetic opening, which would work great with the players running in.

Here and Now by The Ernies

You'll have to listen to it... like I said, great opening to it... now to discuss other various songs:

Rock You Like a Hurricane - The Scorpions
- The opening is a bit too long, but it's pumped up... kinda. And Hurricanes, Cyclones... they're both big spinning storms

Cyclone - Dub Pistols
- Not a good opening song, but where is this elsewhere? With lyrics like "You got me runnin in a cyclone" repeated over and over, you just have to play it!

No Leaf Clover (with S&M Orchestra) - Metallica
- More of an intimidating song, if that's possible. Beginning is quiet, but would work as a "fade in" over the siren, cause as soon as the guitars come in it's loud and strong. That's when the players would run it, ideally.
" And it feels right this time
On his crash course with the big time
Pays no mind to the distant thunder
New day fills his head with wonder, boy

Says it feels right this time
Turned it 'round and found the right line
"Good day to be alive, Sir
Good day to be alive" he said.

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way"

Appropriate, yes? That intro is really really long, though, so..

Word Up - Korn
- Dunno how well it'd work for intro... but still fun and hard rocking

Du Hast - Rammstein
- Ain't gonna happen, but I had to mention it.

The Energy - Audiovent
- Pumped up.

Headstrong - Trapt
- Lyrics for chorus work well, but unfortunately I don't think it's quite pumped up enough.

Pump It - Black Eyed Peas
- If not for football, for something... maybe basketball, but yeah.

I think that'll do it for my music talk. Ah, I love thinking of situational music... fun stuff.

Here's some food for thought:

Till I Collapse:Eminem- Great Words, Great Beat, Good Tempo. Background Music is a large group clapping to a beat......it would easily catch on to the fans in Trice to clap along.

Another Good One:

I Stand Alone-Godsmack.....actually there are many Godsmack songs that would be good.

Here's what they should use......I think everyone could agree

SANDSTORM-DARUDE....Best Techno Song Out there. It would get everyone pumped up, especially the Student Section. Over the last couple of years I have thought it would be perfect for an intro to any sporting event.

Whenever I hear this song I want to kick someone's ass.
<

-chorus-
Stand up
I have had enough
Walk away before I finish what you started
Face to face I will put you in your place
End this game before I finish what you started
Face to face everything will change

It's Trapt - Stand up. Could get the players fired up.

I love the idea of playing "Thunderstruck" by ACDC with the tornado sirens in the backround.

Maybe for our final home game this year they'll play "The End of Heartache" by Killswitch Engage

I agree, the music needs to be changed. "Mortal Kombat" isn't bad- it's good, mindless techno- but it's absurdly overused, and it's been at Jack Trice for WAY too long.

I'd never heard the idea of blowing Ames' tornado sirens before. I love it! I would think that starting the sirens a good 8-10 seconds before the music would have a better effect. Otherwise the sirens might just be shrugged off as background noise in the music.

As for the music, I can't say, since I'm not familiar with any of those songs (sad, I know) except for Sandstorm. (Bad choice, no offense.) Does anyone have links to any of them?

Some newer music to consider (great titles also):

Monkey Business by Black Eyed Peas

Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson

Back to Bedlam by James Brunt

All the Right Reasons by Nickelback

The Massacre by 50 cent

The Sound of Revenge Chamillionaire

I am not necessarily opposed to changing the intro music, because from what I understand it has been around for quite awhile and maybe the music is a little outdated, but some of the suggestions that have been given don't make much sense to me. I think (almost) all of the songs suggested are great songs, but some are a little inappropriate for fueling up a team getting ready to go hit the crap out of their opponents. For example, while it has a great title, James Blunt's Back to Bedlam is a little more VH1 and not quite what I think of when I think of football. And I don't know about you, but I don't know a whole lot of guys who would be willing to admit they even like Kelly Clarkson, let alone run out to the field to it. I do like the idea of AC/DC Thunderstruck, though. And I am a little old school and don't find anything wrong with the Mortal Kombat/"Twilight Zone" stuff that is what is in place, despite it being overused

As a recent graduate of ISU i have to say the people i hung out with loved the older music (VanHalen, ZZ Top, Zeppelin, AC/DC) thats why thats the music i had on my list. I am reconsiderign kashmir because i love the song but it wouldnt really go with the sirens. But the more i listen to "Right now" the more i can hear the sirens and see the sea of cardinal rushing onto the field. I love it. i love the intro to the song and its a really good beat. with good drums and guitar. The lyrics work with our football scene type thing to pump up the players. Plus, who doesnt like VanHalen????

Lyrics:

Dont wanna wait till tommorrow

dont put it off another day

and nothin will stand in our way...

(something like that)

And the lyrics arent until about a minute and a half into the song so we can highlight the music and sirens during the whole entrance.

I like the idea of Thunderstruck by AC/DC and blaring tornado sirens before the game. That would be sweet
<

Combine that with a covered walkway from the Jacobsen building to the field to build up the suspense and I think it would be really great. Also, ISU has one of the largest tornado generators in the nation in one of the laboratories on campus. They should haul that thing over to Jack Trice and fire it up right in front of the opposing teams entrance. That would be almost as intimidating as the tornado before last years Colorado game.

I still get a kick out of the quote from that ESPN announcer that night:

"I never thought I'd hear the words 'Cyclone touchdown' before the game even started!"
