25-49 should all be good.

I’m probably most excited for 25 and 49. 25, Perryman had his ups and downs last year, but showed potential. Is he ready to take the spot over a healthy Terukina?

49, Casey vs Ech. Ech has been hyped up a lot this off-season. But, I’ve been hesitant to get on the train given some mediocre results so far in his career. Also excited to see Casey up a weight. He struggled at last years wrestle off. Hope to see a full 7 minutes of activity from him.

How do these work? Is 57 and 84 a wrestle off for the back up spot? Or what's the thinking?

125, 141 and 149 will definitely all be good matches.

57 and 84 could wrestle off at a later date with a couple of dinged up guys.
Could see another Nov. wrestle-off with a shredded Schon down at 97.

I know, I know. Don't hold my breath.
But it can't hurt to put it out in the universe, hoping and praying.

Crazy. What’s been the deal with Schon. I forgot he was on the roster still
2 years ago he was a grayshirt and he was coming off surgery, last season he was redshirt and went 8-2 in opens, but there has been speculation of academic issues. Who know's if it's academics, injuries, weight cutting, an attitude adjustment is needed, or if there's something else going on, but he's been a bit absent.

Not sure if it was a surprise to those closer to the program than I, but Carter Schmidt beating Manny Rojas surprised me.
I think Manny is more of a natural 165 guy, but he's trying to find his way into the lineup any way he can. Manny seems to still be learning to finish shots on guys, especially guys that are bigger than him. Also, you have the ever-present mat wrestling struggles of a redshirt frosh, going up against a senior.

I'd be curious to see Manny v. Euton.

Finals look fun. I did list the guy who I would have favored first. Some of these could be razor thin though.

125: Terukina/Perryman
133: Grice/Frost
141: Redding/Frost
149: Swiderski/Echemendia
157: Kraisser/Stanek (assume there will be another round here in a couple weeks)
165: Carr/Euton
174: Gaitan/Schmidt
184: Naak/Helgeson (assume there will be another round here in a couple weeks)
197: Broderson/Villaescusa
285: Bastida/Bruening

Grice and Redding better be ready to go, Frost boys wrestle hard.

Swiderski/Echemendia could be good.

Terukina/Perryman will be interesting, mostly in the sense that you don't often know which version of either guy will show up on any given night.

Wish we had Kraisser/Chittum and Naak/Feldkamp. I know they'll happen internally, but selfishly I want to see them.

Dumb question, so don’t eat me alive wrestling fanatics. What is the specific point of Wrestle Offs. I get it’s the guys competing for the specific weight class, but it’s not like the winner is guaranteed the spot, right? That is still up to the coaches going into each dual?

Doesn't guarantee the spot for the whole season, but barring injury it determines the opening lineup of the season. They'll have a certain amount of internal wrestle-offs during the season, too.

Open tournaments like the Cliff Keen can also be a de facto wrestle-off (one guy at 133 finishes 5th while the other 133 doesn't place) but I have no idea how much this staff takes that into consideration. Probably less so than what they see in the room every day.
