Is this the one where the coach was stomping on our logo? I was thinking Toledo but can’t remember exactly.
The Toledo game was the one where they dropped the ball on the 2 point conversion in the 3rd overtime period to give Mac his first overtime victory.

The UNLV game was the one where, on the last play of the game, the UNLV player came down with the ball in the back of the endzone. His first foot to come down was out and his second foot to come down was in. Reverse the order and it was a TD and a UNLV win.

That year continues with the win over UNI. They missed a game winning field goal wide right with only a few seconds left in the game.

Mac's last win that year came when Missouri had what would have been a game winning touchdown called back due to a holding call on the last play of the game.

Mac's last season was literally four play away from going 0-12 instead of 4-8.

That was a pretty rough season to watch. Then Cheezedip happened...

Since I already mentioned it, how about the '06 Missouri game. They are now out of conference.

Mac's last game. Fullback nicknamed 'Cookie" does his best impression of John Riggins and runs roughshod over Missouri's defense. Referees actually makes the correct holding call to give Mac the win. The team carries Mac off the field on their shoulders.

And yes, the conference did issue an apology letter to Missouri for the holding call. Tom Osborne called out Pinkel for being a whining little ***** saying he never should have let the game come down to the last play against a team like ISU.

Went to the NIU game where Rutland tore up his knee in 2003. Probably worst stadium I have been in. Started season at 2-0 and then lost 10 straight. Awful season all around.

I was there for that last season of Mac. Probably me wanting to forget it is why I don't remember too many specifics.

Interesting to read the recollections and lists.

Downside, it brings to lot how few P5 non-conference opponents ISU has played (let alone beaten) in the past 40 years.

Sorry, carry on.
Agree, it’s kind of an eye opener of how few good non con opponents we’ve had over the years if we’re having to bring bowl games into the mix. I’m not an advocate for getting rid of the CyHawk game, but if it did go away it sure would open up more options for interesting P5 scheduling.

True, it'd allow more variety for P5.

Alternately, although it's unlikely we'd drop FCS slot and still keep Iowa, then add another P5 (non-Big Ten), that would add intrigue to non-league.

I’d go with UConn 2011. Steele’s 3 of his first 4 passes ints. Still came back and won.

I guess NIU in 2004 was fun. Was down something like 3 scores and Brett Meyer led a comeback early in his career.

Toledo triple overtime win in 2006.

Honestly why I wouldn’t mind dropping the Iowa series. I’d rather play a new major conference team in the non conference and travel to new road games once in awhile.
