Believe me, you'll get your wish. It's gonna be freaking awesome. Too bad they'll finish it right after I'm gone... just like every single other school I've attended in my life. They always start the super-sweet additions during my last year, so I have to deal with the construction, but never actually get to use the building.
I'll be just starting year 5. Beautiful.

So hard to pick one. Certainly Beardshear, MU and Morill are the three "must sees" as far as I'm concerned. They are all visually impressive and historic. Howe and Hoover are both great contermporary pieces. On a personal level, my favorite is Marston.

I chose Catt because when I started at ISU, it was Old Botany and was a complete disaster. The fact that they completely refurbished it and made it a truly beautiful building on campus rather than replacing it with a concrete monstrosity like Ross was a wise move. Same for Morrill Hall. Sometimes they do the right thing

I agree. I think that they did a GREAT job with the Catt and Morrill renovations. Those two buildings are now real strong points on campus. I also really like what they've done with the new buildings...Gerdin, the MU expansion, the Coover (ECpE) addition, Hoover and Howe. I'm excited to see the new Biorenewables Building and the new chemistry building (Hach). They've really put some quality buildings up, both inside and out. It sure beats some of the crappy buildings that they've built on campus like Science 2, Ross, Zaffrano (physics addition), Bessey, Jischke Honors, Town, Metals, Carver...those buildings just don't have a lot of character.

For my money, my favorite is Lagomarcino in the spring and summer.

For those that dig the Gerdin bldg.,a little trivia; The design firm was the Portland, OR office of Zimmer Gunsul Frasca (ZGF). An ISU grad named Dan Huberty is a partner there and a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects.

not sure what it would be if I were going to school today, but in the late 90s my fave was Carver.

I love Design, but why they put nationally recognized design programs in the Parallelogram of Ugly is beyond me.

My vote goes to Beardshear. It's probably ISU's biggest 'identity' building and the interior is beautiful. When some UofI kid talks up their Old Capitol building, show them Beardshear and they'll STFU.

And although not my favorite, I love the Landscape Architecture Building. It's adorable and it always smells like coffee. What's not to like?

Good question. You should ask the Chair of the Architecture Dept., he designed it.

Okay we're on page 4, and has really nobody mentioned the Campanile?! It just occurred to me.

Is it technically a building? More like a landmark.
It's both. Anything can be a landmark. The campanile does have a room inside of it that is used on a daily basis during the week. It is heated and air-conditioned, has electricity, phone, internet, AV equipment, and a sealed roof. I'd say it pretty much qualifies.

Wow, tough question. Friley by a bit however. Great unique building with a ton of lifelong memories and friends made there.

Wow, no mention of old RCA! I have to be a Linden Hall homer. Closest dorm location on campus to almost every athletic event without having to live in one of those fugly towers across the street.

And I'm also sentimental towards the Armory. Even though I only had one class in that building my freshman year (Design 101 is what it was, essentially), I loved the atmosphere of that place, being able to walk around all the architecture studios late at night while I took a break from my own project.

I didn't even learn until late in the semester that the Armory was the former building used for the ISU basketball program. I loved going up into the bleachers when I needed a break from an all-nighter trying to imagine what the basketball court would look like without all the studio cubicles filling up the entire atrium.

Coover Hall for me. Worked there for 4 of my 4.5 years of college. Spent many hours "working" up on the roof of the building while having a smoke. Even had a couple lawn chairs up there at one point so we could relax.

While he library has been mentioned jest, I really do like the old section of the library, with the huge Grant Wood murals, When Tillage Begins, Other Arts Follow. When in the library, I would make sure that I walked through there, even if my business that day was nowhere near it. As a farm kid, 'agriculture' meant all the things I disliked ... walking beans, sorting hogs, stacking bales, yadda, yadda. To go to college and walk into the historic part of the library with bigger-than-life paintings that depict the beauty and necessity of agriculture, was simply eye opening for me. I've always admire Grant Wood's style, so combine that with the subject mater and well, I fell in love.

Maybe this all ties into my love for the Land Grant university system - or at least for me, it's how I visualize the tenets of the Land Grants.

So there you, one my absolute favorites is the old part of Parks Library.

3 people said Design? :biglaugh:

Ugly and a lot of wasted, worthless space.

I voted the union but I like the bldg where admissions is too.

I chose Catt as well. For pretty much the same reason. I remember having a class in the basement of that place when I started. I was always in fear it was going to collapse. The next year, it was closed for renovations. So, I don't think my fears were that far off.
