I am pretty sure we met at one point  Also... ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas - Christmas Specials Wiki

I am pretty sure I watched it on ABC 25 days of Christmas this weekend. You will concede that Muppet Treasure Island is mainstream right? I'll give you almost every other muppet movie as not mainstream however those two, if asked, are the two that people will bring up if you ask them about muppet movies.

Hmm, might have to re-evaluate. I'm just going off personal experiences like having to talk people into watching it, or having a hell of a time finding a DVD copy once my parents VHS wore out. Compare that to the heavy hitters (Grinch, Rudolph, Christmas Vacation, etc.) that you can pick up at any Walmart come November.

And would most people really list Treasure Island if they didn't grow up in the 90's? I'd think you'd get WAY more people that say the original Muppet Movie or the new one from a couple years back.

I miss the 90s. I had a similarly hard time finding MCC but when I did I just bought two copies and called it good. I definitely have not encountered this at any big store.

Not sure if people on here would consider it mainstream but "Noel" is a great movie that doesn't get much pub. Starring the recently deceased Paul Walker.

Help solve an argument between my wife and I: is Home Alone a Christmas movie?

Are you kidding me? 100% yes it's a Christmas movie.

Sure, it is set during Christmas, but the fact it is Christmas has no real purpose in the plot of the movie. The concept and plot would have been the exact same if the family was going on a Spring Break vacation.

I see your point, but also feel that Christmas is what made the movie more special. The family made it home in time for Christmas, which is what Kevin wanted all along. Also, there wouldn't be a Shovel Slayer if it was spring break time. :)

I think it's a Christmas movie even though most of it is a farce about outwitting burglars. The resolution of the family's story and that of the old neighbor relates close to the spirit of the season that it's absolutely a holiday/Christmas movie.

I suppose Scrooged would be considered mainstream, but that's one of my favorites.

One that I haven't seen or heard from in forever is Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas. I use to love that as a kid, but I haven't seen it around in decades. So I suppose that was at one time mainstream but now somewhat obscure.

Of course there is always the Star Wars Christmas Special, which falls under the so bad it's good category. Does anyone on here actually remember watching that live as a kid?

Sorry if this is already a thread but curious what thoughts are.

Can name as many as you want. Ones on my list are:

The Ref with Dennis Leary, Judy Davis and Kevin Spacey. Seriously hilarious.

Mixed Nuts with Steve Martin, Madeline Kahn, Rita Wilson, Adam Sandler, Liev Schrieber, Anthony LaPaglia, Juliette Lewis. It was panned by critics but we as a family love it and watch it every year.

Home For the Holidays with Holly Hunter, Anne Bancroft, Robert Downey, Jr., Steve Guttenberg, Dylan McDermott, Claire Danes. Great flick.

This is the first thing that came to my mind when I read the thread title. Really great movie. I wish TNT or some station would do a Home for the Holidays marathon on Thanksgiving like they do with A Christmas Story.

It's a great one. I need to find it on DVD. Seriously a pretty spot on look at what holidays can be like.

I wasn't around to watch it live but I have seen it. I had to drink a lot to make it all the way through. The only redeeming quality about it is the first appearance of Boba Fett.

Personally I go for the older movies like: Holiday Affair (1949) or Remember the Night (1940).
