"Not this time. It's Pig Ten territory, UK will have no friends that building. 10 hours by 4 wheel drive thru the mud, Indiana has straight shot across their cornfields. The local price gouging merchants are charging through the roof because they knew before hand that the weasel of selection committee was sending UK there regardless. It has limited hotel space, and only crop dusters fly into that backwater. There is one bus that goes to Chicago. There is no train service, and very limited local transportation. You drive, or you don't get there, and can't get around if you don't have a car.

Cal was right when he said 'I was hoping for Anchorage'. More to do Anchorage than IOWA. This is the worst venue UK has ever seen."

I love people knocking on DSM and then when they visit they leave thinking its the greatest place on Earth. I cant think of a location I woulld rather be placed at than DSM just based on walking to bars/arena/etc. and cheap everything aside from airfare.

Ha. That's rich coming from Kentucky people. Talk about hillbilly.

that does bring up a good point. I, of course, will cheer against Kentucky and Indiana on Thursday. Who on Saturday though.

And can you get around Kentucky on a train?

Louisville isn't some cultural metropolis.

Lol!! Haven driven through Kentucky myself this post is kind of ironic talking about only cropdusters flying here and driving through the mud. The only city they have comparable to Des Moines is Louisville and even that town is more in Indiana than Kentucky.

I'll be cheering for Indiana at the game on Saturday for sure after reading this.

If I were from another state, drive/fly in, get a hotel in Ankeny, take an $8 uber to court ave, drink my face off until the game starts on thursday, leave walk back down to court ave, st patricks day in dsm is the best ive been to outside of Chicago. Then Friday, hit up the st patricks day parade at noon, rinse and repeat. Should be an amazing time.

I stopped through Kentucky and Tennessee last week. They are definitely a different breed of people living there. It's all hillbillies and waffle houses.

The only point he has is the public transportation. It could be a mess downtown trying to park. These pairings are a double-edged sword for Des Moines. It's great that three huge fanbases will make the trip, but this will test the theory that Des Moines doesn't have the space to host. I'm sure many visitors don't realize you can get downtown in 20 minutes (maybe 30 with tournament traffic) from 20 miles outside of town.

Some of the most incomprehensible southern drawl I've ever heard was in Kentucky. That and some of the most blatant racism.
