Facility improvements in 2010?

We have had some sort of facility improvement almost every year since 2002, the exception being 2005, what if any facility improvements will start this fall/next year.

I know that we would all like to see the end zone bowled in, but that is unlikely to happen this year. ISU would have to have an extra 3.6 million or so in revenue every year for 25 years in order to pay off the loan to finish JT, unless there is some huge donor- but if they haven't landed him yet they aren't going to. I think that we really need to do some renovations to Hilton, just to keep it from falling apart while we try to finish the master plan.

Anyone think we will be able to do any more renovation/construction next year?

I would say if someone donates 10-15 million we would be good to go for the endzone. No the chances of that happening......
Maybe someone invested 5 million is Principal Stock when it was $5 a share?

What happened to the suites in Hilton?

Note: I'm not a fan of that idea AT ALL!

I think we need to work on basic renovation to Hilton. Repairing cracks in the concrete (those walkways are in terrible shape), etc. They have kindof started already by renovating offices but there is allot of work that needs to be done. I wonder how much it would cost to expand the concourse without all the extra building added on to the front of the coliseum.

building a new outdoor track. that thing is horrible. Its just barely a step above a cinder track. Horrible horrible to train on all year.

yeah exactly.... Its that bad. Right by the softball field. I have heard rumors that we would move it to the fields by MWL. But that's only once we have the money and rumor has it, we already have a pledge of one million.

Huh....

(I was being serious in that question. I'm ignorant on that subject and know nothing of track)

But I'd guess that since JP is a former runner, this is probably pretty high on his wish list.

Actually, I think that you have it right. I think that they will put an outdoor track east of JT next summer. Really, that's a fairly small investment. Track, stands, restrooms, locker rooms. The largest cost could be either filling the dirt to raise the facility out of a flood plane or pushing up a barrier along the river to keep the water out. Of course, if they are going east of MWL, they avoid that problem.

I doubt either will happen. That area hardly ever floods, and when it does, it is because of heavy rainfall that got stuck in a low spot. They may have to fill a little so that everything slants toward the river, but that is probably all. Even last year I don't think it flooded anything except that parking lot.

That is interesting. I agree that they do need a new track, but I figured that wouldn't happen until after the other construction. If they already have 1 million, it could happen next year.

Don't forget about area for fields events.

I think to have a really good outdoor facility at a D1 level, you'd want to spend about $2-3 million, especially if you're building at a completely new site. The hub's alma mater completely re-did their outdoor track a few years ago to the tune of $1 million and that's at a DIII school.

Everyone likes the idea of closing in the Jack including myself, but until we are filling up the place each game what would be the point?

To me, that's an easy argument to make. First off, it's all about recruiting. Most recruits don't actually visit on a gameday weekend. So it doesn't really matter if the stands are full every week or not. It matters how "big-time" the stadium looks. I would bet that there aren't very many (if any) other BCS teams with a stadium with two open ends. That has to be fixed.

Secondly, ISU doesn't need to sell out the new seats to pay for the addition. IF ISU gets a $25M donation (that donor is out there...just needs to complete a certain business transaction), then charging premium prices for those seats for one game a year would basically make the payment. And that's worse-case scenerio. Likely, the students would move to the endzone, opening up some more donor sections on the east side. There would likely be another Cy's Pack section or two on the NE side and the current endzone and hillside people would get first shot at the endzone upper level. You can bet that the NE and NW hillsides will be packed, forcing some people to move to the stands too.

The area east of MWL hardly ever floods, but the area east of JT does flood. That area is just as low as the JT parking lots, which I've seen flooded a couple times in the last few years alone. If I were them, it would be an easy decision where to build. Move all intramurals to east of JT. Save the other field for track and eventually softball and baseball.

I know of a good set of bleachers that would look sweet behind a new track...I'm sure Rhoads would be happy to see them go!

If you want to do the track right, and I'm sure we would want to, a top level surface would cost around a million if not more. This would be the same surface(super mondo) as drake, ASU, TTU, and the track at the past olympics.

As for throwing area, It wouldn't be out of the norm to have the trowing area a little ways away from the track. Therefore, if they did the track at MWL then throwing areas over east of JTS. But then again, if they did it right, they could probably put the trowing events in the area near MWL as well. We wouldn't have to build locker rooms (the rec is right there). It would probably be more cost effective than east of JTS.

Please excuse my rambling :)

ASU has a solid facility. They spent 3million in 1976 to build their stadium. If we built that same thing, it would cost almost 12million now. A new top-notch factility is gonna be extremely expensive. Something we probably can't do for a while unless we want to scale down things a lot.
