I am looking at buying a elliptical machine, I am trying to keep the price under a 1000. I was looking at the Nordic Track commercial 1300 series, because I want something that is durable.

anyone have a elliptical they would recommend? Or ones to stay away from?

I bought a Schwinn on line for around 6-700 and it's great. Check ratings etc. It also has a much smaller footprint. You have two choices, rear flywheel or front. Rear takes A LOT more space. If that is no problem, you have lots of choices. I don't remember our model, but I can look it up if you want. It also doesn't require so much ceiling height. Dont buy a Sears or a cheap one. They take a lot of abuse. Our's is holding up great.

Are you looking for a new place to hang some laundry? That is what happens any time we have excercise equipment in the house. It's just an oversized and expensive coat hanger.

I know they are expensive new, but if you have access to a good exercise resale shop, I would recommend Life Fitness. They have them where I work out and they are always being used and used pretty hard. I've never seen one broken down. I'd imagine they'd hold up pretty well in a home.

Assuming you are trying to lose weight or tone up...my advice would be to skip the machines and buy a weight set instead. Lifting weights is the most efficient way to lose weight and gain tone. 30-45 minutes 3-4 days a week of a weightlifting regimen using supersets with little rest in between sets and you won't need to do cardio or aerobic exercises.

Bingo, that's what happened with our. We just bought a fairly cheap one from K-Mart, it elipticals just fine, especially for how little it gets used.

Precor makes a great one. Second hand ones are a great option.

Just bought a refurb Precor and I'm waiting to have it delivered. My buddy bought one from the same outfit and said it was like new when he got it. Fitness Solutions :: Fitness equipment for home gyms and any physical fitness facility is the website, but you can usually get better deals if you go through their eBay auctions. Their seller name is "areufat." They are a little more expensive, $2000 plus shipping, but it's the same stuff they have in the clubs and it'll last forever. You have to use it though:wink:.

That works great until you turn 30 and can no longer put on lean muscle like you used to. Once you hit that you need cardio also.

I have a good treadmill recommendation, but sorry, I don't use the ellipticals.

Get a good elliptical. I also recommend higher ceilings or your head has to go between the floor joists in the basement. I would also get one with an adjustable stride length if you are over 6 foot. With I had.
