It's Not a Chicken Egg Scenario
Winning comes first- then the big name recruits follow & in ISU's case we'd only get 3-5 4 star kids each year.
Face the facts, the state of Iowa might only produce 4-5 Big 10/Big 12 caliber players each year. The state of Texas produces 200+. If Gene Chizik is going to build a quality program at ISU it is going to be by identifying 2&3 star kids who get overlooked & our new staff then coaches them up.
How many 3&4 star athletes did Boise State have last year and they beat OU? Look at Kirk Ferentz' Iowa teams from a few years ago- it was built on developing 2 star athletes or walk-ons. Guys like Gallery, Greenway, Clarke, etc were not highly touted out of HS.
I am disappointed so far. I am sure that the last recruit will never start a game. Then we lose one of our top commits.
Keep in mind what this recruiting staff is getting paid. We should expect more. The whole idea was to bring in quality players from the southeast and southwest. Almost all our new guys are from the midwest and are not highly rated.
Now we supposedly have a chicken/egg scenario. You can't recruit without winning and you can't win without recruiting.
