Yeah, they're setting basketball back a bit with this performance.

Michigan State is very mediocre this year and they've nearly tripled Iowa's offensive output with 3 minutes left in the half.....wow. What a dunk....

I really want to revel in this... but at the same time, I'm empathetic, as lord knows we have struggled this year- sometimes in similar fashion to this game.

no defense.
cold shooting.
turnovers.
hot shooting opponent.

I agree. We've been there before this season. The only thing I'm reveling in with this is the fact that this should put their NCAA tournament at-large bid hopes to bed.

I wonder if they still think they're a tourney team.

Of course they still think they're a tourny team. You kidding me? They seem to always come up with some great excuse for which this stuff happens. This will make them think they are more than deserving of an invite now.

Losing to anyone 81-49 means you should not be in the tourney. Plus MSU is not that great of a team.

Wow, I just saw the final score. The just out played in everything in that game. I am pretty sure they are not getting in now. Unless they win the Steve Alford Invitational.

As of this post, standing wise, the Hawks are still 4th in the Big Ten. Two of their three remaining games will be available for viewing at the Carver-Hawkeye Mortuary. They don't play any teams above them in the standings.

If the Hawks maintain that 4th spot, I don't see how they don't go to the dance. I think some of you need to prepare yourselves now for the fact that the Hawks are in a pretty good position to go dancing, no matter how crappy they may have looked against MSU today...

No, no, no. They will not make it. I don't care if they do finish 4th in the B10 they still wont make it. If you take out Ohio State (still hasn't beaten anyone good) and Wisconsin, the B10 is really bad. Their non-conference is pathetic. Their have no signature win. Their RPI is in the 80's. I think they only have one win against a ranked team and that was against #24 MSU in early january, the same team that just beat them by 40. Today's game was the final nail in the coffin unless they win the B10 tourny

I briefly turned on the game and during that short period I watched, one of the announcers said that this might be a year where the committee needs to look at quality wins in the conference and non-conference to decide which big 10 teams go to the dance. He was making the point that someone down the list in the conference standing could go ahead of someone higher in the conference standings. RPI will be important.

With all of that said, I still won't be surprised the hawks go.

I really don't care if a team is fourth in their conference. You should compare teams nationwide, instead of in their own conference. Too much talk is put into how many teams a conference should get instead of taking the best overall teams.

I disagree. As of now, the Hawkeyes have an RPI of 81 and will most likely fall even lower. Michigan (66), Illinois (41), Michigan St. (35), Purdue (37), Indiana (17), Wisconsin (5), and Ohio St (2). all have better RPI's than Iowa, and the selection committee has never had a problem chosing a team lower in the standings with a better RPI, and some quality wins. Iowa's biggest wins are against MSU and Indiana, but they're both at home.

Top that off with the first 4 teams below them in the big 11 standings having better RPI rankings and records of 19-8, 18-9, 17-9, 17-7... I don't think it looks too good for Iowa at 15-12.

I feel unless they win out and win a game or two in the tourney, it's the NIT for the Hawkeyes.
