There is not a single recruiting service that has him listed as a PG. does not play point on his high school team nor his AAU team. Everywhere listed as a 2/3z. Watched his entire game on TV tonight. He is not playing PG at Iowa State.

Could he bring the ball up the floor? I’m sure he could. Does not have bad handles. But would be absolutely shocked if this is how TJ intends to use him.

What exactly was CW’s take?
CW must be on vacation.

Because recruiting success!!!

CW called him a combo guard and that he was being recruited to Iowa State as a point guard.

I would be extremely surprised if Asuma ends up at Iowa State.

I’ll believe it when I see it. With Lipsey and Williams being true point guards and each having 3 years of eligibility left it seems like an unnecessary reach for TJ to go after someone with this skill set to play point. Especially this early with over 3/4 of the top 150 class of 24 recruits being uncommitted and the transfer portal overflowing every year. It just doesn’t make sense.

Obviously possible CW knows something we don’t. Would love to hear more context from him on this.

CW calls him a PG in the latest Williams and Blum podcast. Says his style comparisons are Marcus Smart and DeAndre Kane.

Just listened to it. I’d love to hear more backstory here. Does not look like a point and doesn’t seem like he’s played that position on HS or AAU team. Not listed or rated that position anywhere on line. Very interesting if true.

This article confirms staff targeted him as point guard. No way we’re going after Asuma any longer.

ON HOW HE FITS WITH THE CYCLONES' SYSTEM

"They want me to plat the 1 because i’m a big guard. They see me as at my best with the ball in my hand. They think I’m best when I am on the ball and getting everyone involved."

Gotta love a 6’5” PG with a handle.

Kid could end up 6’7 220 if he has any growing left to do. he Doesn’t strike me as a true PG but I do see the point about more versatile players (outside of Lipsey and Shoon/Rob it’s hard to put a label on anyone this year - same last with exception of Hunter and Rob/Conditt).

Staff clearly sees something. Would have to suspect he’s going to see minutes at 2/3 with Lipsey and Williams presumably here his freshman and sophomore years.

Does anyone know Assuma is completely out of the picture or if thats speculation based on new info weve been on Pierce as a 1?

Just read it here, called a Kane, Smart type PG. Like I said before. Reading his scouting report i have my doubts.

We’ll since you’ve read the scouting report that’s all that matters.

I would assume we are doing Transfers from here on out. Seems like we got all the guys we went after. Unless we chose to go after a huge recruit just because we don't have to recruit any more kids.

@TrulyCyclone

Take it up with CW and the player, himself, who is quoted as saying that Iowa State is recruiting him as a point guard.

You might not like it, but it's a fact. The coaching staff, based on their assessment of his game, thinks he's capable of playing the 1. Whether they're right about that is still to be determined, but it's unlikely that they came to their conclusion on a whim.
