Does anyone have any recommendations for DVD ripping software? Please note- I AM NOT trying to do anything illegal here, I simply want to convert some of the hundreds of DVD's from my legally-purchased collection to mp4 so I can store them on an external hard drive and occasionally transfer to my phone.

I've seen Slysoft AnyDVD and a few others mentioned on some mobile phone forums but of course I trust CFer's opinions more.

Thanks in advance.

I've got DVDShrink coupled with DVD43...everything I've thrown at it so far has been handled.

Try Handbrake, great free program. Then use the free DVD Decrypter or DVD43 in place of AnyDVD. The new issue of Maximum PC has a how-to on this!
Just make sure you're doing this for your own DVD's as you said.

Um, rip it onto your hard drive, and then find something to convert it into an .mp4? I think goes on your iPod. I think on my old laptop I had something like Videora iPod Video Converter or some crap freeware.

i was gonna say, it doesnt matter what you do with them if you have to break the encryption (and you do have to to do what you are doing) then it is illegal...

As long as you have the original still I would think it not being illegal. Only because you have the original, and are not using it to make a profit. I use DVDFab and Nero products. It works great.
