Pitbulls owners are trying to fulfill some weird need to own something dangerous or at least perceived to be dangerous. Essentially, they're trying to look like a badass.

It's the ultimate dog for guy's with a small penis.

Oh, and get one from the shelter for sure!! That way you're more likely to get one that's shown violent tendencies, but the owner said "doesn't like our cat."

Idiots.

you're not going to be popular in this forum.

Lets compare dogs to ...lions, tigers, HIPPOS?!.. Alligators.
Not comparing them. But the comparison wouldn't be any more silly than comparing a pup of a few pounds to a full grown dog of 75-125 pounds.

I'm not on either end of this spectrum in the argument, but I really dislike seeing ridiculous stuff posted by both sides and the amount of vitriol here.

By the way, if you think the hippo one was silly, you need to educate yourself. Hippos cause more human deaths than most other species in the animal kingdom. Hippos are very aggressive and dangerous.

I understand Hippos are very dangerous.

Hippos are not as dangerous as dogs.

EDIT: fwiw, I did not expect to type that sentence going into this thread.

And I didn't expect to read it. :)
But Velo has a point - most everything is cuter when it is in the baby stages - even serial killers:

Oh really.

There are only about 125-150,000 hippos in the world and they kill about 2,900 people in Africa every year.

If we had one dog caused fatality annually for every 50 dogs in the U.S. we wouldn't be keeping them as pets. That would be over 1.4 million human deaths a year in the U.S.

Clearly that was a typo. I know Hippos are are more dangerous. Lol

Really didn't mean for this thread to turn into a giant debate but thanks to those who gave me their input. I ended up taking her back this morning. Tough.. but for the best. Wish they would have told me this when I got her, not when I brought her back, but sounds like a previous owner burned her and abandoned her. Hope she can find a home that can handle that kind of mental rehabilitation.

Lastly, to Thefullmonte, I'm lost. Does this mean I have a big **** now? Crawl back into your hole.

Really wish I would have saw this earlier. I would have loved to argue with you.

Don't feel like doing it today because its Friday and I don't feel like talking to a wall.

You're jokes are terrible, BTW.

Socialize, socialize, socialize. She for some reason or another has a fear or apprehension about men. She needs to spend time with men of all different shapes and sizes. Consider a muzzle for introductions, until she warms up to them. Be sure to let the people she is meeting know that she is unsure of men. Ultimately, she needs to know that you are the alpha and will look out for and protect her. When she trusts you and knows you are in charge, and also has experience around men, she will likely find that she doesn't need to be so on edge. Best of luck.

That's hard to do, but sounds like the right thing. Go back after a little while and find a dog that fits in with your lifestyle. You'll be much happier.

I'm sad for the dog, who didn't deserve her early treatment.
As for fullmonte, I suspect he is overcompensating for a (lessthan)fullmonte...

Sorry to hear that.

Here is my advertising plug....

My wife helps out a lot with Northern Plains Boxer Rescue (NPBR) located out of South Dakota. We helped rescue dogs from a puppy mill and adopted one of the puppies ourselves.

If you ever are looking to adopt again and want a fun, wiggly-butt boxer.. Id recommend them!

So, what I said about the stupidity of adopting a pitbull from a shelter was exactly right.

They gave you a damaged dog that would have a propensity for violence (thru no fault of its own, of course, but that's not the point). They didn't tell you about this because they just wanted it adopted and would hope for the best.

You were smart to take it back and applaud the decision.

I would be talking to whoever runs that shelter about not fully disclosing the dog's known history because what they did was completely irresponsible.

They gave you a ticking time bomb.

Yeah, that's really not what you said.
Nice job on the revisionist history, though.
