Reading over some of those posts after the big contract extension was signed shows why A.D's are paid big bucks to be smarter than the average fan. I agree the fan base wanted to see CPR get an extension, but 10 years after such a short track record as a head coach without a lot of his own recruits was a bit excessive both then and in retrospect. It's not like he was having anything remotely close to Hoiberg type success and over the first 3 years Fred's program was rising while CPR's was regressing.
This..no way should that contract extension have ever been 10 years..ever. Not in today's college football. You hire a coach he gets a 4-5 year deal initially. If he needs extended to keep recruits happy then u extend it out to 4 years..period. Any smart AD knows this. There is ZERO reason to extend any HC past 4-5 years. Too much can change. We should be in a situation right now where we only have a 2-3 year buyout which is reasonable..not 6 years..
Now..I hope cpr can get to 5-6 wins but I like many others is doubtful.
The next HC has to be an offensive minded coach..has to be. We need a HC that can recruit a stud QB. You have that and it can take you a long ways.
