Does anyone own a Pontiac Aztec?

I think the Aztec defines function over form. That is one ugly vehicle but I've heard they are quite flexible and functional.

Thought that GM was going to shutter their plants in their big plan to layoff 30% of their workers...Aztecs may be history just lkike their previous brethrans.

Yeah, Aztecs are cool. Real cheap in the spring.

The Aztec was only produced from 2002 to 2005 and was one of the worst selling mass-produced vehicles of all time. It typically gets nods in Forbe's Worst 10 cars report every year and is considered to be one of the biggest financial flops in the modern vehicle era.

That said, they were probably just a tad before their time as they were one of the first "cross-over" vehicles that are now hugely popular.

Pontiac Aztek - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

GM forecast sales of up to 75,000 Azteks per year, and needed to produce 30,000 annually to break even. Just 27,322 were sold in 2001 with more than 50% being sold to captive rental company fleets or used by General Motors executives.

The Aztec fascinated me. I always wondered what executive looked at that butt ugly design and greenlighted it for production.

What fascinated me even more was when I saw someone driving it. I always figured that they must have gotten a great deal on it. Something like, Pontiac included a wet bar and a hooker in the back.

I agree. Every time I seen an Aztec it reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer designs that car and ruins his brother's business.

I have the Buick Rendevous (SP), which is the sister to the Aztec, just as functional, no where near as ugly. Not a great car, but it is no ford windstar either.

Asking someone if they own an Aztec is like asking them if they have an STD. Probably not too many honest answers.

BTW, Jeremy is displaying an inordinate amount of knowledge about the Aztec.

It's every bit as ugly, and it's gussied up for retirees.

Pretty sure almost everyone who has admitted owning either version has added the qualifier, "...but I got a GREAT deal on it."

You put the sales of the Buick version in and they at least made some money on the deal. Still pretty embarrassing to the Pontiac brand, even years after it's demise.
