Does it work well do u like it? I have a small house, old furnace, big gas bill. I put in extra insulation last yr which helped some but just inefficient furnace. I don't want to spend 4 or 5 g's on a new furnace. I thought if this works it would give me time to save up for a new furnace or even not have to buy one? Let me know what u think of yours, thanks.

I've studied the edenpure and others, and here's what I have found: If the output is 1500 watts, you are going to get the same amount of output (btu's) whether it is sitting in a $400 oak console made by the Amish or a rickety piece of stamped tin you buy at Walmart for $27.

And all of them are around 1500 watts because it seems that 1500 is about the most you can run on 110 volts and standard wiring.

They work great for localized heating, just save your money and buy the el cheapo ceramic ones from a box store, because the guts are pretty much the same.

I don't have one, but that's pretty much what I've heard. The Edenpure is just an electric space heater with a fancy name and ad campaign. Remember that electricity is more expensive than gas. They'll save you money if you can turn down the furnace in your home and use the heater to heat the room you're in. That's great if you live in one or two rooms in your home. If you move around your home, or if your family is spread throughout your home, it's not going to save you any money.

It still would be interesting to hear from someone who actually has one, but I'm thinking you are on to something here.

To the OP, if you want to replace your furnace less expensively, find someone who does them 'on-the-side', so you don't have to pay for the overhead of a company. Plenty of HVAC guys out there who do this kind of thing, and for a small house, shouldn't cost you $4k-$5 to get you a 95% furnace.

We don't have the EdenPure but bought a Comfort Zone brand...and really believe in it. We have a family room that used to be a 1.5 stall attached garage, and the only heat source when we moved in was a brick fireplace. My dad and I were able to plumb in a single vent from the furnace but it was never enough. Used the 1500 watt ceramic heaters with zero success...they ran all of the time and never seemed to really make it comfortable. The Comfort Zone unit keeps the family room very close to the setting that we set its thermostat at and doesn't run all of the time...once it gets the room up to temperature, it shuts down. No more blankets and wearing sweat pants! Even in this recent run of sub-zero temps, the heater has done very well and not needed to run a lot.

And if your electricity cost is 10 cents per kwh...that is basically costing you 15 cents per hour for hear IF it runs constantly.

We were facing the same problem two years ago living in a 950 square foot house with a full basement. We received a home equity loan from our bank and replaced the furnace, air conditioner, and hot water heater all for approximately $4,500. The loan has been repaid, the house is now very comfortable year around, and our utility bills are down even with the increased rates and severe winter. Needless, to say, we do not regret what we did.

If you decide to get a new furnace look into the energy efficient models as you can get rebates from your electric company and a federal tax credit. One of my kids just put in a York. The initial cost was around 4800 but with rebates and tax credits it was less than 3000. [furnace only she did not need a new air conditioner]

If im not mistaken EdenPure works like a radiant heat sorce....not just heating the air, but objects in the room. theres a difference.

My girlfriends dad has one and claims it cut the winter bills in half. they've had it for a couple years now.

They work awesome. I would strongly disagree that a ceramic heater would be better. The Edenpure heats copper piping and that radiates heat which the fan then blows across. That means the element isn't always running, making them much more effecient than a ceramic heater. Another advantage is that they don't get hot to touch which was important to me b/c of 2 little kids.

I have a 100 year old house, all orginal everything, 10 foot ceilings, boiler heat. The Edenpure saved me a $150/month on heating expenses. I thought it worked so well, I bought a second one.

Consumer Reports Home & Garden Blog: Are EdenPure space heaters just a lot of hot air?

For every degree that you lower your home thermostat in the winter, you'll save about 3 percent on heating costs. So the only way to really save with a space heater would be to use the unit in the room you're in and turn down the thermostat elsewhere in the house so that your main heating system would not operate. To save 50 percent on your heating bill, you'd have to lower the home thermostat about 17°F. Also, based on national average fuel prices, using an electric space costs more than twice as much to operate as a natural-gas-fueled central-heating system

The Edenpure can heat a large are. In our old house we had large pocket door openings and it heated the living, dinning, family rooms as well as the kitchen. It was about 1100 sq feet. In our new house it heats the family room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom, also about 1100 sq feet which is pretty open. The bedrooms on that floor are colder but that is okay.

Our thermastat is set at 68 and we run the heater during the day (not at night b/c of kids rooms needing to be warmer). It brings the temp up to 71 and the furnace has not turned on when the heater has been on. All I know is, it lowered our energy bill substantially.
