I don't really mind it, and people in the stands are pretty damn loud singing it when they play it, but if it will stop people from whining incessantly about it then get rid of the damn thing. Who cares. Its just a ****!ng song people.

The only people who whine are a portion of this board, and some on this board would whine about getting hung with a new rope.

Hmmm.. Tough to come up with an alternative that coud be unique to ISU. Do you go with a banger, or a ballad? Does there need to be some connection to the university, or the state?

I feel like ideally it has a singable, catchy refrain, something the crowd can join in. And something which indicates good vibes from a win.

I think the chorus of this has promise:

Maybe we should merge this thread to that stupid daily ear worm thread.

Love it. Only needs to be played after W's though. Never play it before the 4th quarter, etc...

Also, the part (BA-BA-BAAAA!) needs to be replaced and chanted by the audience as (I-S-U!!). Amazing that our video board can't get this easily awesome idea done for when that moment happens.

"So Good - So Good!" should also be replaced as "Go State! - Go State!"

Again, easy to change. Would make the song "ours" IMO.

1.) Switch it to the Me First and the Gimme Gimmes cover and I'm good.

2.) I think we claimed Juicy Wiggle, and last year I remember the crowd coming unhinged when it played, it wins as our song. (And Redfoo is Berry Gordy's son, who knew?)

Any tradition has to be organic, we alway try to force it (see Jeff Johnson on the mic; love Jeff, cringed every time he lead cheers...) But somehow, Cyclone Power stuck and is good now. It's like trying to go viral, it's not possible, it just happens.

Don't mind the song. Drives me crazy that ISU is borrowing someone else's tradition. Probably too late to reel it back in, and people seem to love it. We should modify the Rock Chalk Jayhawk chant and use it too. Just kidding...

On that note, are there any other "traditions" that are unique to ISU? For instance, is the "Don't Know The Words" song original to ISU?

I believe dont know the words is unique to iowa state. The song is actually titled Go Cyclones Go. I do not know when the unofficial lyrics started.

A tradition that I always liked but not necessarily related to football is the Zodiac in the MU. I am not a superstitious person but I always walk around it because it is tradition. The architect designed it as such that over time the bronze would wear away and eventually be level with the floor. Students nearly immediately started walking around it and almost 100 years later it is no where near worn down to the floor.

I voted No: I've shared this several times, I am blessed to be able to attend many college sporting events from Minnesota NCAA Hockey, to Stanford Gymnastics. Every venue in every sport in every university plays this song at some point during the game. This is not original. When I was blessed to be able to settle down in Iowa and follow Iowa State exclusively I found it unbelievable (and embarrassing honestly) that Iowa State considers Sweet Caroline a tradition or ownership of it. It's fun, yes, but everyone is doing it nowadays.

I don’t need it to be original. I want it to be good.

Having stood on the field at Jack Trice after some immense wins singing Sweet Caroline with thousands of other Cyclone fans, arms around people I’d never met before, I’m good.
