We head to Ames quite often, but find ourselves going to the same restaurants. Any suggestions for a spot? Not looking for something in the fine dining category, something more casual, where having a drink is possible. Looking for places to take teenagers as well as just adults. Nothing against large chain restaurants, but looking for something different and local if possible. Thanks

So, I assume you're looking for something other than Old Chicago, Okoboji, Legends, etc...?

West Towne Pub- location?
Dublin Bay- location?

We enjoy Legends, GP, Hickory Park, Battles, Old Chicago, etc, just looking for other options.
Thanks, keep them coming, it is a long (not in a bad way) bball season, great opportunity to enjoy some good food.

West Towne is out on South Dakota, right off Hwy 30.

Dublin Bay is on S 16th across from KMart, I believe. Just west of Duff.

Should be good to go for a few trips to Ames. West Towne Pub, Dublin Bay, El Azteca, Olde Main Brewery............will I need reservations for 4 or will I be okay? Going to try one of them out tonight, another one on Sunday night.

Most of the times I'm there, it's a game night. Don't usually have trouble if you give yourself enough time and expect a bit of a wait.

My guess is that since it's Friday anyway there will be some sort of a wait.

The worst I've had at El Azteca is 10-15 minutea on Sunday lunch

I've been to Dublin Bay once and I have no idea what people's infatuation with the place is all about.

I'll cut them some slack since this was a Saturday night after a football game, but we waited 45 minutes to sit (would have happened anywhere though). The beer and food was relatively expensive for what you get. I was not greatly impressed by the food itself also (I had a reuben, probably should have tried something else). The staff was slow (it was a busy night though).

I guess if you were Irish and liked paying a lot of money for so-so food it would be OK.

JMO!

I would recommend West Cyde Wings. I usually only go there on Tuesdays for their wing special ($.39 ea.). Otherwise it is moderately pricey, but the wings are definitely worth it. And you can order drinks. There are a few TV's and it is basically a sports bar.

West Cyde wings has some great wings... Also a fan of West Towne, pretty decent place... Add me to the list that is still up in the air about Dublin Bay. The many times I have been there have been kind of hit or miss. Never been overly impressed by anything I have had there...

I have been to West Towne Pub twice, once after a basketball game and once on a normal non game day Saturday and had to wait 40 minutes for a table both times and another 45 minutes for food. The 2nd time I went the fryer was down so that sucked. I havent tried West Cyde Wings, where is that?
