With all the jokes around here about the depth on that particular B1G team, I thought this quote from the AP article on last night's victory was pretty funny...

"The Cyclones head into March as one of the hottest teams in the country - and they can thank their depth for that."

Watch out, because now we got depth!

We obviously aren't a deep team, but barring injuries, that shouldn't matter from here on out. Unless you get into a game in the tourney where they call it really tight, which tends not to happen, IMO.... you should be ok with 7.

The key will be for guys like Hogue, Thomas and Naz to play consistently in the dance. If those guys present favorable matchups for us and give us production, we'll be very tough to beat.

9 players did play last night.

I actually would LOVE to see SDW get some minutes...kid just looks smooth. Especially if Thomas continues to struggle. I think MT will be great for us...but I think SDW will be awesome as well.

SDW needs to get some shots to fall, then he will be ok.

Who cares if this team isn't deep. The top 7 can all hurt you if you don't pay attention to them. There never is a weak link a team can sag off of on the floor.

I think the comment in the article is spot on - we have the truly important type of depth. We have 7 guys that have stepped up and had big games at some point in the season, and have three guys that can take over and dominate a game. We had 5 guys play great games last night despite the potential conference POY struggling and sitting half the game. That to me is a deep team. I was glad to see Edozie and SDW steal some minutes last night. I would like to see us be able to steal a few more minutes with Edozie in each game. I think fatigue leads to Georges and Mel reaching too much and picking up cheap fouls. Then they are forced to be less aggressive once they pick up some fouls. Besides, any lineup we put out there now is going to have multiple scorers, so I don't think Edozie would really be that much of an offensive liability and would help us on the boards and defensive end.

Looking smooth and producing on the court are two totally different things. I have seen nothing from SDW to make me think he'll be "awesome".

Perhaps what we have can be referred to as "depth", and what others have can be referred to as "derpth"?

New drama but same old ending in Lakers' 108-103 loss to Memphis - latimes.com
"We want a certain type of basketball and we're trying to establish that," D'Antoni said. "Clearly, the numbers say that when you spread the floor and move the ball, get up and down the floor, then we have a lot better chance to win. And that's what we want to do.
"We want to establish our identity. This is how we're going to play and we're going to get better at it. And we're going to push the ball and we're going to evaluate talent. It's frustrating some players, I understand it."

Speaking of quality depth, it should be able to be used to do the above, much like Hoiball.

On the other hand, last night's game did expose our potential weakness. If Ejim or Niang get in foul trouble, we absolutely have to have Hogue, Naz, or Thomas step up big. Good to see both Naz and Houge have great games, and we needed it.

I thought we were struggling? Now we are one of the hottest teams in the country?

These writers either don't bother to or don't have time to actually watch a sufficient number of games to know what's what so they rely on what they've heard or read from others. Then, when they actually do get a chance to watch us they realize that our reputation and our actuals don't match up, in our favor.

I don't really see a weakness there. You could say the EXACT same thing about almost every team in the country.

SDW has shown some flashes of being quality on the ball defender in his limited playing time. Hasn't really been able to stay in games long enough to get in the flow offensively though.
