What he was saying is that statistically african americans commit more crime, especially at a young age. I believe that stat is still accurate. So when a team is filled with a group of that age and statistical group, it isnt necessarily surprising that its statistics would track with that statistical group.

I know what the poster was saying now. But, it wasn't clear to me in the original post.

I apologize if my comment offended you. Here is what you wrote,

"Not to mention football teams are made up of closer to 110 players in total, and are filled with the type of person who is most likely to get arrested that exists. (18-23 year old males, many African Americans)
When you factor in the fact that a lot of them probably use their physical strength to get them by on a lot of things in life instead of good decision making, at least to a certain extent, and I'm not surprised."

You placed in parenthesis 18-23 year old males, mostly African American in making your point about who typically gets arrested. Then you said, "When you factor in the fact that a lot if them....."

If you meant to refer back to football players in general and not keep the inference you put on AA males, you should have said, "When you factor in the fact that a lot of football players....." That would have kept it clear.

Ok it's all good. The african american part was in parenthesis, separated from the rest of the post. I think it was a bit of a jump to say in that situation my whole post was about African Americans, but miscommunication happens.

A quote from a poster on the Ames Trib site:
Last night David Irving Defensive Tackle for Iowa State was arrested for Domestic Violence.
As a concerned family member I have expressed to David my concerns in regards to his baby momma Angela Sanchez's of Moreno Valley, CA violent outburst. His response was that he feared the saftey of his daughter therefore he kept Angela around to protect is daughter. I personally observed the neglect on Angela's behalf raw bottom from severe diaper rash, to throwing items across the room, leaving the baby in the car unattended.
Angela has a family history of Child protective services, abuse and neglect therefore this comes as second nature to her.
Misery loves company which is why Angela along with her mother Star Nettles was out to destroy David's promising future.
Like many other young girls they harass and torment athletes, musicians etc when they discover a text or just can't expect breakup!!!!
Unfortunately these young men are publically humiliated and are forced to defend their reputation and character. Angela comes from a family of drug dealers and gang members. Her Great grandmother is in federal prison for drugs. She kicked the door as I have witnessed several times before. Also there are many witnesses that state that she was angry when David asked her to leave and was going to make his life miserable. Don't believe what you read. Don't allow you prejudice thoughts to blame the black man

No. Let's hear both sides of the story without automatically assuming the man is always guilty in domestic abuse cases. I don't know that he is. I wasn't there. Were you?

All we're hearing here is anecdotal "evidence"...much like the posters upthread who have met DI and either liked him or thought he was a jerk (putting it mildly for the admins).

Is this some court of law? I thought it was the interweb where rash judgements and uninformed opinions reigned supreme.

The comment still stands. I'm very leery of "second hand" knowledge of people and places. There is nearly always an agenda behind it.

High School history class must have been torture having all these second hand agendas pushed on you. /jimlad

This confirms what I heard last night from the father of a student who knows Irving and his girlfriend; there is another side to this story. I concede that this is third-hand hearsay, but we shouldn't be too quick to judge.

I can't speak to the veracity of this post, but it does demonstrates why people shouldn't rush to judgment.

I think it just speaks to people seeing or justifying what they want to see. It's the cycle with every event like this.

1. Indignation
2. Justification
3. Indifference

Unfortunately, with athletes, the justification tends to span longer because we think we know them or they have value on the field.

Pretty much what KCCI reported last night that Irving was also a victim of domestic abuse.

I will gladly blame the victim if the comment posted is true. Oh wait the baby mamma wouldn't be the victim but the instigator. If the comment is true I say cudos to David for trying to protect his baby. I will now sit back and let all the saints on this board bash away.

Nope. With age comes a greater understanding. I look at our history books from the 70's now...no mention of Japanese-American internment, Wounded Knee and other acts that shine a less than favorable light on the USA. Per Churchill, history is written by the victors - and that's VERY accurate. If I read something controversial, I try to find other sources for the same topic to form a less biased opinion. It has served me well.
