surprised that there hasn't been any talk about the upcoming dual. i know wrestling is less than a fringe sport, but at least it is a sport that we have a legitimate shot at winning a national title in within the next couple of years. i wish there was a way for the guys to get some more support.

anyways, what's everyones prediction for the meet? i'm gonna go for some gusto and predict the clones in an upset with a score of 17-15. i

Re: clones vs. hox this saturday

I like our chances in this meet.. but the crowd will be rocking for the Hawks at Carver (imagine that).

we will need to overcome that and our lack luster approach from last years match that sealed the loss of 2007. Do I think we can win? Yes... But it will take all weights making a statement.

Re: clones vs. hox this saturday

19-10 bad guys. Prove me wrong Cyclones.

There has to be at least 30 pts. scored and I'm pretty sure there will be some bonus pts scored by both teams. If Dennis is at 133 we are actually favored at 6 of 10 weights. So much for "on paper stats," going in to Carver will be tough - ISU 20, UI 19.

If Dennis wrestles, as good as he is, I think Fanthorpe wins so...ISU 23, UI 16.

Does anybody know if Mueller's ready, hurt, or ?? What's the chances of Lundell getting a surprise crack at the champ? I know, I know...it's just a thought!

Re: clones vs. hox this saturday

Will the attendence mark be broken??

I think it will be a one point meet 17-16 or 18-17!!

I hate to say it but i'd favor Iowa winning by one because they have proven that they can score bonus points in big meets.

Mueller was hurt with an apparent ankle injury I think...I also heard, that they didn't want to throw him in there against patsy teams and risk getting hurt worse so they left him out.

Re: clones vs. hox this saturday

125 - #2 Charlie Falck vs. #5 Tyler Clark
Falck will be too tough for Clark to pull this upset. Falck was down 4-0 to a true freshman last Sunday before he caught the freshman and pinned him.
Falck by dec. 3-0 Iowa

133 - #11 Dan Dennis/UR Joe Slaton vs. #5 Nick Fanthorpe
Slaton may still be in the doghouse with Brands, but Dennis is coming off a loss to #10 Bell of Maryland and Slaton just beat #15 Beebe of Central Michigan. Fanthorpe is on a roll this year and will not lose this match. Big Match.
Fanthorpe by dec. 3-3

141 - #3 Alex Tsirtsis vs. #2 Nick Gallick
Which Gallick will show up this weekend? The Gallick that beat the defending national champ? Or the Gallick that lost to a Wisconsin wrestler who was up a weight from last year? Same can be said about Tsirtsis as he has never been called consistent. I like Gallick to control the scrambles and win this match. Bigger Match.
Gallick by dec. 6-3 ISU

149 - #1 Brent Metcalf vs. #10 Mitch Mueller/Dalton Jensen
Jensen at 100% may be worse than Mueller at 75-85%. Mueller is less likey to give up the big pin. Metcalf would major Mueller or pin Jensen, so I will split the difference here.
Metcalf by tech 8-6 Iowa

157 - UR Matt Ballweg vs. #7 Cyler Sanderson
Really want to see Sanderson open up on a guy he should beat. He shouldn't have any problems with Ballweg here.
Sanderson by major 10-8 ISU

165 - #9 Ryan Morningstar vs. #3 Jon Reader
The way Reader has been wrestling, a major is not out of the question here. Morningstar is up a weight, but he may be more comfortable at 165. I still cringe when I think about Morningstar beating Paulson 2 years ago...
Reader by dec. 13-8 ISU

174 - #2 Jay Borschel vs. #8 Duke Burk
Burk was majored by Borschel last year. Only difference this year is that Burk is wearing a Cyclone singlet... I see Borschel winning by 5-7 points here.
Borschel by dec. 13-11 ISU

184
- #3 Phil Keddy vs. UR Jerome Ward
This will be interesting to see how Ward handles the hostile crowd and a very tough Keddy. Ward is too big and strong for Keddy to bully like he usually does. Keddy will catch Ward at some point in this match to get 5. Then Keddy will coast to the major.
Keddy by major 15-13 Iowa

197 - #19 Chad Beatty vs. #1 Jake Varner
Beatty really beefed up in the offseason. Only problem is that Varner really has grown into the weight class. Varner has shown offense early. I expect Varner to win by 5-7.
Varner by dec. 16-15 ISU

285 - #16 Dan Erekson vs. #2 Dave Zabriske
I really hope this match isn't last, but in all likely hood, Cael and Tom will want to go with a traditional dual and leave it to the big men. Erekson has been topping the scales at 255 and has been tough on top. I really liked the way Zabriske handled the much bigger #3 Massey of Wisconsin. Z should win this match.
Zabriske by dec. 19-15 ISU

Well that's embarrassing. I must have missed a match (or two) when I was adding them up. Since I'm so dumb I'll just assume I'm wrong on the winner too.

I thought you were just including the -1 team points Tom Brands was going to get when Fanthorpe beats Slaton...

I also say we will lose (I think Gallick loses where he shouldn't and at least one other).

If one team wins both 133 and 141, it will be almost impossible for the loser of those two weights to win the meet. If those two weights split like I think they will, it will come down to bonus points.

HWT scares me. I love big Z but Erekson is wrestling well and only lost to Z by 1 point last year. If there is going to be an upset, I think it comes at Hwt.

I really want to see Reader destroy Morningstar but that will be a close match.

I updated the rankings for the 12/2 Intermat Rankings on my previous post.

Few changes
125 Clark moves up to #5
133 Dennis moves into rankings at #11
141 Tsirtsis moves up to #3
149 Mueller moves up to #10
157 Sanderson moves down to #7
165 Morningstar moves up to #9
285 Erekson moves into rankings at #16

Matchup this weekend will feature 18 ranked wrestlers with 11 being in the top 5... Rankings don't mean much though. Just something to hype the meet a little more.

Just heard that 197 #19 Beatty is out. Lofthouse or Jordan Johnson will be at 197.

Varner needs bonus points here to offset 149.

Oh, oh, I smell 6 points. I respectfully rescind my earlier prediction and now say "ISU kicks ***". Go Cyclones.

EDIT: Of course, I already went almost all-in on the squawks. I'll do it every week though if it gives us wins.
