ISU got rewarded for beating Iowa by getting ranked on the next poll.

And the CFP poll is the only one that matters. They never come out will a poll until November to eliminate any expectations teams have entering the season; instead the CFP poll looks at the teams’ body of work for the season

This is why it’s fun to be ranked #16 right now, but it’s really not something to be focused on right now as there is a TON of season left to be played
Even the analytics based polls (SP+, FEI) still have a large pre-season component. It will take another couple weeks before those are based only on this season's results to date.

Yeah our conference will get screwed going forward, but honestly, the Big 12 really stinks this year. If we only get one in its understandable this year.
I wouldn't say it's awful. Why say that? It's our conference and some of the expected leaders have lost or not looked great in a game or two. Our conference will sort that out soon. Be proud of 'us'. What is the other option? To be proud of the SEC or B1G? No, thanks.

Many who say, 'just win', forget that the B1G and SEC are set up for success in the initial rankings, recruiting, NIL, conference payouts, etc. If some of you say we (the Big 12) are bad now, what do you think it will be like in 5-10 years? The B1G and SEC will continue to pull away in the advantages they already have. But, yes, we have to win.

We need to stop downplaying who we are, until it is consistently shown otherwise. It does us no good to downplay 'us'. Fight for who we are now.

OUT just moved 'out'. We are only in the first year of the CFP's. Let's see how it plays out. I like who we are as a conference right now. We can get stronger, and need some things to go our way. We need to act like we belong, because we do. It's not going to be easy.

“The Big 12 Conference is beating itself up - it must suck. Meanwhile, the SEC and Big 10 are also beating themselves up - they must be great conferences” is basically what you just said.

Who has Ole Miss played? Why are they still #12? It's so much easier to stay in the rankings when you start top 10 vs. work your way in.

**** the sec, the media bias, and them only playing 8 conference games.

#12 Mississippi's schedule so far (Sagarin Rank)

Furman (174)
Middle Tennessee State (157)
at Wake Forest (93)
Georgia Southern (89)
Kentucky (25)

#9 Missouri's schedule so far (Sagarin Rank)

Murray State (221)
Buffalo (141)
Boston College (62)
Vanderbilt (81)

A Big 12 team will for sure make the playoff, but they are definitely angling for 8 between the SEC and Big 10.

The SEC probably deserves 4 this year. That league is usually overhyped but it's legit deep this year and the bottom half is not nearly as soft as it's been. The B1G is a joke. Outside of tOSU, Oregon, and Penn State it's pretty underwhelming. Michigan being #10 is pretty hilarious. They aren't a good football team this year. They got absolutely piss stomped by Texas and looked poor against Arkansas State, USC, and Minnesota. They are maybe a 20-25 type team and that might even be generous.

who in this conference deserves to be above #12?

Iowa State should be ahead of every single one of these 1 loss teams except maybe LSU and Clemson. The playoff committee will put a lot more stock into the win in Iowa City that what the AP voters have.

I do not believe it will happen but if Colorado can somehow sustain this roll they're on, there's zero chance the committee doesn't put them in as an at large. Merit means nothing, it's a TV show and everything about Deion was made for television. And honestly that's a good thing for the league and we should hope that happens.

I think it’s interesting that your post 5 mins before this one calls the big ten a joke but then you immediately follow it up with saying the committee with think highly of the win against Iowa. It’s one or the other, not both.

Also yeah I would have ISU over ND, Clemson and ole miss in the rankings.

This why style points matter this early in the season. I bet Iowa State would be looked at more favorable than some of these teams if we blew the doors off ND and Houston and not looked like crap for a half against Iowa.

Maybe. I have no trust in the committee. Iowa will get rawdogged by Ohio St but then probably reel off a bunch of super fugly wins against bad teams like they always do. Hopefully, they can eventually backdoor their way into the Playoff committee rankings in the high 20s. That would help us. I want that thing to crash and burn in Iowa City worse than anyone but, purely objectively, this isn't the year we really want it to happen.

It's still an FCS team but at the end of the year, that North Dakota win will end up looking decent. That team for that level is very very legit.

My post was in response to playoff contenders. Iowa will be 10-2 this year because their schedule is insanely favorable. On paper that win in Iowa City will look really good in November.

It was a quality loss against a tough SEC opponent that’s defeated a top 10 team.

I’m sort of joking, but that’s literally the reasoning some of those voters use, with the amazingly non-evidence-based preseason rankings as a justification.
