As for being classy... I usually support classiness. Given a chance for positive cheering over negative cheering, I choose positive (case in point, insted of yelling "Sucks" after U-N-I, I tried to get an I-S-U chant going. Didn't quite work... but yeah)

That's what I was waiting for, the I-S-U chant. Just over-power them with something that supports our school/team. But I'm sure when I get to be an old fart with a young kid I'll be washing his mouth out with soap when they say that word so it's not completely irrational to think that there are better ways to shut up the other team's chants. We do have small kids at these games that have every right to enjoy that game too so the bull**** and the "don't know the words" chants are probably not very appreciated by parents I'm sure but the lighter side of things finds it funny too.

Again, I'm just as guilty as the next person for chanting those at one time or another too. My point is there are 2 sides to this debate and as harmless as it may seem to some of us there are also other people that probably don't see it the same way. Does that mean it will end or should end? Probably not but I love when we find more creative ways of voicing our support or displeasure. For instance the "no means no!" chant was a great and creative chant when Pierce was here compared to the "rapist" and "sex offender" which still weren't too bad but a little more harsh. A little kid is not going to wonder what no means no is but not sure you'd want them asking about or saying rapist.

Don't get me wrong, I'll join in the bulls*** chant and other stuff from time to time (when it's deserved)

No means no and rapist we fun chants to participate in, and by no means do I think we should police people to be 100% clean.

It just drives me nuts when say... both teams come on to the field/court at the same time, and insted of cheering for your team you boo the other team. Given the choice to cheer or jeer, I'll cheer.
Jeering is fun, and some of it is fine ("you suck" for intros for example), but people shouldn't get so caught up in trash talk that they forget to support their team

The Pierre Pierce game in 2003 was also the last time I heard the "The refs **** sheep" chant. At least from my vantage point in the balcony, there were numerous chants of:

"The refs **** sheep" followed by "The sheep said no!"

I've always liked the Three Blind Refs song (spoof of Three Blind Mice)...

Three blind refs,
Three blind refs,
See how they run,
See how they run.

Their whistles are stuck,
And their eyes are closed.
What they call, nobody knows.

Three blind refs,
Three blind refs.

We had this one down perfect in HS. Ahhh, the good old days.

It wouldn't be hard to get CA to sing/chant this in unison, not hard at all. It's fun and not derogatory.

We used to have an even worse one than bulls*** when I was in school that I haven't heard in awhile. "The refs **** sheep!" was one we used after some bad calls we didn't like and that one has disappeared the past few years I noticed. Used to be able to hear that loud at Jack Trice. Now that is not classy but the refs probably got the point we weren't happy!

That's perfect for us since we are an Ag School.

And if anybody asks, we don't "boo" the other team. We just say "moo".

Ah yes, forgot the sheep said no chant! That was a classic chant that died somewhere in the past few years...

How about "NCAA sucks" for a new chant??

Hmm love to but that'd probally violate the Cyclone Alley Code of Conduct

"As a member of Cyclone Alley, I promise to...
-Work cooperatively with Cyclone Alley Central committee to create Hilton Magic at
Men's and Women's basketball games
-Not attend a Cyclone Alley event while under the influence of alcohol and/or illegal
substances
-Not recreate or redesign my official Cyclone ALley T-shirt in any way
-Be respectful of those around me at CYclone ALley events and refrain from using
offensive language
-Display positive sportsmanship and refrain from directing offensive language toward
game officials, visiting teams, and visiting fans at all Cyclone Alley events

I understand that failure to comply with this code of conduct could result in dismissal from a Cyclone Alley event or removal from the Cyclone Alley organization at the discretion of the Cyclone Alley Central Committe, Iowa State University Alumni Association staff, Iowa State Center Staff, and/or Iowa State University Athletics Department Staff"

Taken from the 2007-2008 Cyclone Alley handbook... in accordence with prophesy

I looked up into the North side and saw at least 3/4ths of teh fans smiling, laughing or clapping toward Cyclone Alley...those are the moments that make CA great

Pretty sure when SUCKS was done, both sides erupted into I-S-U and that got the place rockin for the first time since, oh, I would say Kansas last year. Great turn out last night, awesome section, stayed in it almost to the very end, but with one minute to go, it's hard for anyone to stay with it when down by ten. Thanks to those who know better than to leave a game early though.
