Constant site traffic records today & possible slow site performance

We have been breaking our site traffic record about every minute so far the past two hours. Right now everything is running smoothly but please be aware that all of this added traffic could strain the server and create possible periods of slow performance. I hope this does not happen but please be patient if it does.
