I heard St Eds is the driving teams out of the conference. They want to start their own network and keep the revenue to themselves.

On the road...
This is odd. I really don't care about Eagle Grove at all, but I'm surprised Clarion is thinking about this.

I just talked to my father, who is a teacher and coach at CG and he said at this point it's nothing more than looking into it at this point. As an alum, I understand searching for a conference to be more competitive in, but the NCC lover in me hates it. We've never really be competitive in the conference in most of the sports, but as one of the founding schools I don't like them thinking of leaving.

Bondurant is in the Racoon River and use to be Heart of Iowa. This has been going on forever. In the North Central town sizes are not changing or getting smaller. Schools by Des moines are getting bigger.
Example. Class of 94 in Bondurant: around 35. My kids 1st Grade class is 165.

Dallas Center Grimes has a K-garten class of a big 4A School. It use to be small.

Gilbert and North Polk are the same way.

I will say it was awesome being in a big school conference and competing for the most part then getting to the postseason and playing against the Corwith-Wesley-Luvernes and Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonkas of the world. NCC competition in all sports was a HUGE advantage come playoff time.

We had realignment start last year in the eastern part of the state...The Big East is basically all going to the Tri-Rivers with a few going to the new "River Valley" Conference, and Monticello and Cascade are going from the Tri-Rivers to the River Valley Conference. For some reason the IHSAA decided that a 13 team conference was a good idea?

Who did you play for? The schools you mentioned are lower level 1A schools.
The smallest schools in the North Central are 2A. CG, AG, FDSE, EG, Etc
So you would have to play 2-A teams in Post season.

Bishop Garrigan was A, 1A, or 2A depending on the sport. I think the only sport we played 2A at any time when I was in HS was baseball for freshman-junior years. Senior year we played 1A.

In things like track or cross country it was a huge advantage for me to run against the Webster City/St. Ed's talents and then get to districts and know that there were MAYBE 2 other people who were going to be able to run under 11:00 in the 3,200, 5:00 in the 1,600, 2:10 in the 800, or 18:00 in cross country.

They changed to regions in Des Moines and I hate that move. The des Moines schools had been playing each other for years and then they broke those schools up to go to regions

Got ya.....that does make sense now.
I think what you see with the small private schools around Des Moines is they play up a class since they get to recruit :)

They all could be 1A but they play 2A because they get a pretty healthy dose of talent.

i believe at least atlantic got moved down to 2A in some sports already and i'm guessing the other schools have been trending down too so it might not be too big of a strech for them

There are several other 2A schools in the southern part of the conference I believe (Shen, Clarinda..?). Regardless CBSA won't have a problem competing. Will likely finish near the top in basketball and baseball very consistently.

Yeah, and schools like Valley's enrollment is leveling out and dropping a small amount. Not by much, but Valley has reached its enrollment peak, and the enrollment is slightly smaller.

I went to Wilton High School, one of the high schools in this new River Valley Conference. We are familiar to conference realignment as this is the third conference we have been a part of in the last 15 years. (We were part of the Eastern Iowa Hawkeye Conference and Cedar Valley Conference) The Cedar Valley Conference didn't allow Camanche in earlier this year when they wanted to join. So now instead of three conferences, the department of education decided we need to have two.

It makes no sense to have 13 schools, however they did get the divisions correct for less travel for all the school.

all catholic conference??

LOL...I would say a Private division would be good.
If schools want to go private, recruit kids and compete they should be willing to travel and play against each other. They typically have more money anyway.
Look at teams like DSM Christian, Grandview park Baptist and Ankeny Christian. Combine their schools enrollment and they would still be 1A. But combine their teams and they may win a 4A title on any given year. Meanwhile Ankeny Christian that has an enrollment of 20 kids gets a team that competes at the 3A level....Weird..

so make a private division with

Then throw in the schools like Pella Christian, DSM Christian, Ankeny Christian, Grandview, Woodward Academies etc. all the other private schools.. Split them up into 2-3 divisions and let them fight it out. You would have 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and Private.

That way they can play against other teams that get to recruit athletes to their school.

Hell, Bondurant would be Crazy good this year if we could go find a 6-8 post player and a 6-2 shoooting guard that wants to be religious for a year. Unreal, how this works. And don't judge my opinion unless you have coached against it. Districts are at the mercy of who lives there. And some districts open enroll and some don't. Ankeny Christian has an enrollment of like 50 kids and somehow competes at the 3A level pretty well. Weird.

Personally Im excited to play in it (Itll be my senior year) and itll be a huge step up in competition from the Tri-Rivers for Monticello.

Red Oak is 2A also, CBSA was 2A in the 90's anyway, they play a lot of hawkeye 10 schools and will fit in just fine

Sour grapes. The system we have is fine. Stop whining.

So should Valley be in the recruiting division as well since it's well documented?

I didn't get **** for being an all-stater at a private school. The reason the majority of your private schools can beat up on schools of like size is location. Algona for example has a 3A school and a 1A school. The town is big enough to support amenities such as a YMCA where we had the ability to play basketball all year, run all year indoors, etc. Now when we go look at the majority of 1A schools they don't have a town of ~5,500 nor do they have the amenities that go along with it.

Fact: Most private schools can't afford to recruit. They need every last student paying as much as possible in tuition so they can afford to keep the doors open.

The Corn Belt will be down a member a few years when Riceville gets split between Osage, St. Ansgar, and Howard-Winneshiek (Cresco).

They need to bolster their ranks for defections such as this. All aboard the Super Conference train!
