Piggybacking from the "smuggling" thread...

I've been able to track down some concert listings from JTS. Anyone have more?

Oct. 1989 - Rolling Stones
July 1990 - Paul McCartney
June 1992 - Genesis
Sept. 1992 - U2
Apr. 1993 - Farm Aid VI -- This was right around VEISHEA.

Willie Nelson, with Gov. Terry Branstad in the background. Stage was set up where the South end zone bleachers currently sit.

June 1994 - Pink Floyd
Aug. 1994 - Billy Joel/Elton John
Oct. 1994 - Rolling Stones
Apr. 1999 - Country Festival (George Strait and special guest Tim McGraw, joined by the Dixie Chicks, Kenny Chesney, Jo Dee Messina, Mark Wills and Asleep At The Wheel)

Cannot believe it has been 10 years since a concert there. 1994 was a bad year for FB but a good one for concerts.

Unfortunately, we've probably seen the last of the outdoor concerts at JTS -- at least until there's a way to keep the playing surface from being damaged. Plus, the stage would have to be set in the North EZ now, with Jacobson behind the stage.

That's the real answer with your April 1999 post. There just aren't anymore acts that can play a Stadium, espcecially state by state. It's one thing when DMB plays at Red Rock, etc. but the outdoor stadium concert days are over.

Speaking of DMB, they drew over 42K to Folsom Field (Colorado's stadium) in July 2001.

It was grass in 99 they put something over it to protect it. The stage was in the north then.

Not concerts in JTS, but in 8th grade I saw NSync at Hilton and in 6th grade I made my first and only visit to Carver-Hawkeye, for a Backstreet Boys concert. Ohhhh the good ol' days.

Disclaimer: I am a girl, and admit to being a teenybopper from approximately 1998 to 2002.

No wonder Hilton Magic went dormant...it was in full swing, then N'Stync came to town and started the decline. It survived the LE years, but was slowly dying off. :jimlad:

Thank you for the disclaimer! You really had me worried there for a minute!

They have to upgrade the sound equipment in JT before they can have a concert in there.

It would be awesome to see a concert in there with the bowled in endzone. I bet the sound will be better too.

I doubt a concert would use the existing sound system. If anything needs to be upgraded it would be the video board, it was very annoying when it would always crap out and go crazy during games last year.

I am sure many on here will condemn the listening to of those groups but I bet they have sang along, tapped along, even danced along to at least one BSB or N'Sync song.

Although I was born rural and find some 90s country tolerable, I grew up listening to mostly punk rock which found something to hate in pop music, but I must admit I have danced with and sang along with the likes of I Want It That Way, Everybody, Bye Bye Bye, etc... oh the shame...

I must say out of the basketball/sports arenas in this state that I have seen concerts at, Hilton is probably the best there as well. CHA is meh and UNI-Dome...omg, terrible concert atmosphere. Of course most groups I like were meant for smaller venues (Gabe's Oasis in Iowa City, i don't think it is called that or around anymore, or the House of Bricks and Val Air Ballroom in Des Moines) Motion City Soundtrack, Thrice, and Dashboard Confessional maybe one of the best concerts mix of genres ever. Good times.

Got to see U2 and Pink Floyd at JTS back in the day. (And stood outside the 1st Stones concert). The U2 concert was especially good since we were only about 100 ft. from stage on the W. side. At PF, my wife (then fiance) was too preoccupied with all of the "smoke" in the air to enjoy the concert.

Good times...

Thank god that show was outside, but it still took me two weeks to shake the contact high
