It felt like we have been losing most of our close games this year, as opposed to years past. I went through our schedule during Freddy's tenure, to compare to this season.

To keep it simple I just used games won/lost by 5 points or less as the criteria. (I know, I know, there are certain things at the end that make games closer or look worse, but had to start somewhere.)

So far, Prohm is 4-6 in games decided by 5 points or less and Freddy was 24-19.

Do these numbers reflect good/bad coaching? Great senior leaders? Bad/good competition? Some luck?

Year W/L
15/16 - 4-6
14/15 - 8-5
12/13 - 6-2
11/12 - 4-1
10/11 - 4-6

So far, Prohm is 4-6 in games decided by 5 points or less and Freddy was 23-18. I don't think it was a "lucky year" during the 12/13 season, I would think Kane had a lot to do with these wins.

I don't think it reflects anything. This team has proven that they can win close games and make unbelievable comebacks. They just seem to play up/down to their competition. They have beaten 3 potential #1 seeds...not many teams can say that. I think the bigger fear is playing an inferior team(s) in the first 2 rounds of the tourney.

Fred's first year was Diante trying with a weaker team. The next three years went well at 18-8. This year at 4-6 not so. We are also playing too many close games (40%)

38% of our games last year were 5 points or less.

Since blowing Kansas out of the gym in the 2nd half we have managed to :

- lose to a terrible Texas A&M team by 10 although we led them by 2 with four minutes left

- lose at home to West Virginia after blowing a 23-8 lead and leading by 2 with two minutes left

-Needed 2 Niang layups to beat a terrible OSU team down their only good player in front of a crowd of about 500 coaches wives, girlfriends, and family members

- lose in Lubbock after blowing a 6 point lead with 2 minutes left

Whatever reason for these "woes" we better get them figured out quickly. A loss at home to Texas and things might just spiral out of control quickly.

Looks like Kane and Ejim were better closers than the current group. Need to build a bigger lead at five minute mark.

How many of Fred's W's in that situation are from Naz? 4? I can think of off the top?

Yeah, true...and think, he didn't hit the last shot vs. UAB which wasn't a Fred W. Monte hit a big shot to win Texas last year, this year OU and Iowa, but the odds say it's probably going to even out such as missing at OU and last night. Hopefully we can take our turn and win a lot of close ones in March.

Spangler gagging the layup at the buzzer last year in the Big XII Tournament.

I don't get Monte chucking up threes trying to win games. Drive the lane like the Texas game in the Big 12 tourney last year or get the ball to Georges.

Monte didn't drive the lane vs Texas... That was a shot from the wing about 2 feet inside the arc.

for ****s sake. A&M isn't terrible. It's so stupid to say that.

We we lost to a top 30 (at the time top 5) team on the ******* road. Just like Oklahoma and Kansas have.

Behind you
Big 12 is better top to bottom this year than in most other recent years. It's been good in most other recent years, but this year there's more depth of solid teams and not as many horrible teams. There's still what, 6-7 conference games left and based on your numbers ISU has already played 10 games won/lost by 5 points. Only one of Fred's teams played more than that many close games in the entire season, and that was 13. More good teams = more close losses. That, and Naz. Just my outsider perspective.

If anything I wish Prohm would have just let them play at the end of the game instead of calling a timeout.
