The problem is that there is no excuse for the program to be at a point where there are essentially only 8 high major players on the roster and 4 of them are newcomers. It is not like talented players are leaving early for the WNBA. Buckley's departure did not help but there was no capable replacement for her at PG and their should have been.

I agree that Bill needs to adapt and play 9 to 10 each game once the roster is hopefully replenished. If you don't have elite talent like Baylor or UConn, you reduce the margin of error and improve your chances by having 9 to 10 good to capable high major players and play your hot hands on a game by game basis with a reduced fatigue factor and reduced burnout.

The problem this yr is Jada did not return and TT left the program. Therefore experienced point players were gone. Had those two still been part of the program IMO our record would be better at this point.

Ask the Iowa men how this strategy is working out...

Not that this isn't a bad strategy, and it does work at some places. Again, to me, the problem isn't the players...it is the playing style. Stand in place against the other, very capable (and moving) D1 teams, and you are going to fail.[/QUOTE]

Most of the country doesn't count several thousand kids passes in its attendance total, either. Not even the other Olympic sports at ISU get that special treatment.

I assume you work for ISU and have insider information on this concerning other schools? Even our football program counts kid attendance. And yes, sports like wrestling, softball, etc all benefit from kids passes. Check it out at

Wrestling, volleyball, gymnastics, etc., don't get to count the entirety of JCC members toward attendance like WBB does. If they did, those other sports would list 8,000 for every home event.

It would be interesting to see the exact number of people attending by using the numbers from the scanners used at the doors. I know that would change what is reported but would be interesting to know the real numbers. For the Baylor game the number is 5113, from what I could see from TV it did not look like that many were there.

So, in summary, we all agree to blame @geewago ? ;)

Time to move on to another WBB thread. Maybe not one for the WVU game, doubt anyone gets Pittsburgh Regional AT&T Sports.

The ISU/KU game was listed at 9700. Cheeks in the seats were likely half that. My section was almost 50% empty. Bought three tickets to take some friends and listings were pretty sparse, cheap but not much on the resale via ISU. Was kinda surprised more people don't list for resale if they aren't going....maybe there just aren't many buyers like me interested in driving down for just a few games? Anyway, didn't stop the ushers from scrutinizing tickets, least someone from general admission sneak down into one of the thousands of empties on the parquet level. Reminded me of trying to move down at Waco in 2000. Place was mostly empty but they were watching us in ISU gear like hawks. :)

Men's game about 10 years ago let us peasants sit anywhere we wanted in the lower level. Rev and I made our way down to the concrete barrier, like 4 rows behind the team. Some friends even saw us on TV.

Based on some of the looks we got as we headed down, it was no surprise that it never happened again. We were very much not welcome down there, and they changed it from then on to "welcome to sit behind the baskets."

I didn't feel very welcome at either the WBB or the MBB game I attended over the holidays. At ghe WBB we didn't fit in because we cheered but didn't boo every single call. Old gal in front of us did the dagger stare because we weren't the season ticket people, guessing another 70-something grump. And we were making too much noise talking before the game with NWICY etc.

Was at the Texas game alone. None of the season ticket holders around me even spoke to me. It was very much like I was invisible, or more likely, what are you doing in that seat kinda thing. Guess I had ventured too far into the bigger donor zone and they didn't think I was worthy. Hell, i bought a single, it might have been one of theirs. And, not being a coaching genius, I was not screaming coaching advice to Prohm at the top of my lungs like the guy next to me.

At the Texas game, you could have come way up and grumbled with those of us upstairs.

On the women's side I don't know why they don't tell those in the balcony to come on down once the game starts and you see the empty areas. When I first purchased season tickets (20 years ago) they were in the balcony but most games they told us we could move down.

Really, in 18 years of balcony seats we remember one time that they said we could move down. But with kids in jcc we often sat behind the basket anyway.

We get checked repeatedly in parquat but never escorting jcc kids. I see a few adults in jcc area with no kids but maybe their kids are down on floor level.

Where does it say WBB does? Or is this just an assumption on your part?

Over 20 years of going to Olympic sport events at Hilton + my two eyes + a cursory glance at attendance figures + a little common sense.

The actual number of people in the building for WR, VB, GYM, and WBB events is actually more similar than not. The JCC admission policies for those sports are the same. Yet, WBB attendance is listed with an extra 5,000-6,000 compared to the others.

When ISU lists 10,000 for a WBB game, and there are MAYBE 20 people total in the balcony and entire lower-level end sections are empty, it's easy to see how fudged the numbers are.

If you look at the recent NCAA WBB events ISU has hosted in Hilton, the listed attendance number has been about half of the regular-season number, but with a similar amount of people in the building. Why? Because you don't get to count all the JCC kids for postseason events.
