I hear he was quoted after walking out of the doors of The University of Texas saying,

" I hope you have a great season next year, but y'all gonna go 11-1"

I love the "Swagger"

It's the way to be! Mac would go down to OU and hug "Stoopsie" like they were long lost friends - instead of saying "Stoops were gonna kick you a--."

Attitude and swagger - its back. The team will have it and hopefully the fans will.

Yeah, it was always great hearing about how much other coaches in the Big 12 loved Mac as their teams were kicking the bejesus out of us.

I don't want our coaches to be liked by other coaches in the conference. I want them to be feared.

I keep hearing this word about the Cyclones since Chizik has showed up: Swagger. I think we need to play on this. Maybe Cyclone Swagger T-Shirts? Who knows? these types of things can grow on ya.

-that is an absolutely GREAT quote, I think that would sum up Gene in a nutshell, he wants to kick your ***, but he'll be respectful about it. I think he is just what the up-and-coming Iowa State University needed.

Yeah but the only time you can swagger and get away with it is when you're winning. And you guys can want swagger all you want right now but it will look like Will Ferrell swaggering into the night club at a night at the Roxbury.

Hey I'm all for getting to that point, but I think you have the cart in front of the horse.

Well it was nice while it lasted Bobber, I am going to have to disagree with you on this one.

The "swagger" as it is being referred to, is extremely important to shed that image that Iowa State has nationally, you know the "spin." It isn't about about being "in your face" it's about digging your heels in the mud, and not backing down. I think that you would agree with me on this. Bobber, we have a history, and a reputation, of backing down the past 25 years.

You don't have to get in people's faces with it, but you have to be willing to fight for what you're trying to be about. That is what I see in Gene Chizik, and it really does excite me. I have no idea what the records are going to be, but to have a coach who is more worried about his team than his image is refreshing.

Just because Will Ferrell isnt the prettiest tack on the wall, dont mean that he isnt going to surprise his friends every once in awhile with who he takes home at the end of the night.

Okay I can agree with that. No backing off. Fight to the finish. Who can argue with that?

However Bob Stoops can swagger and get away with it because he's earned it. We haven't yet. That's my point.

No we haven't earned it, but if we are ever going to get there, we have to take it, noone is going to hand it to us. Part of taking it is believing that you are worthy of being good, here is a guy that has seen what it takes to win at the highest level, he has to believe that he is worthy of being successful. I hope that he can drag the beat up, Cubfan like mentality sect of the fanbase along for the ride.

Do you seriously see Chizik as a trash talker though, Bobber? I can't see it myself. Do I see a bulldog of a competitor? You bet I do, and that is the mentality that brings the "swagger."

I don't know what to make of the guy yet Jeff. He seems to be guarded and a very private person to me. I'm not saying that's a bad thing either. It's just a big adjustment from what we had before.

Yeah he better be a competitor with the pedigree he has. Talk is cheap at this point and a year from now I'll be able to form a much better opinon of the new coach and his staff after I've had the chance to observe the team play and the way he's conducted himself on and off the field.

Swagger is not bragging, it's confidence.

Too often we have thought that we MIGHT or that we SHOULD win. We did not often go into a game CONFIDENT that we will win.

Another aspect is that when we don't win, I'm confident that Gene isn't going to shoulder all of the blame and say that he will try harder next time. A great CEO motivates but, more importantly, he/she makes people responsible. I loved Coach Mac for his drive and his willingness to protect his team but he needed to take the last step and make people responsible for results. Coach Mac was willing to take all of the consequences to protect egos and fledgling careers. That was an overwhelming task when his coaches and players couldn't deliver. I don't think Gene is going to do that. It will be Show or Go. The koolaid just fermented.

damn.. how do you ferment koolaid ;) Swagger is the attitude it takes to win, every man out there on the field is nothing but a man and all are capable of the same thing. Winning, if Chizik fills the team with "swagger" and our strenght coach can produce our athletes like the ones that he has injected into the NFL, then our chances of having winning men out there on the field are much higher. Its a good time to be excited for the years to come.

"Swagger" is earned on the field. It isn't a cockiness or arrogance. It's a personality - started by the HC.

1st - always play tough at home - opponents should fear playing at Jack Trice

2nd - NEVER, EVER, EVER lose to an underdog

3rd - every year have an upset or two

Do that for a couple of years and your never losing at home even if Texas and OU, are on the schedule. And no longer do you look for an upset, but rather people start looking to upset you. It starts with the coach and grows from there.

Fans need to help nourish that attitude by believing that the team will win 9-10 games instead of 4-6 games. It's an attitude that grows...

I know this doesn't matter a whole lot, but is anyone else happy like me that we have a coach who you could say is from the Cyclone Tree instead of the Hawk Fry Tree (not the best analogy I know). Chizik coaching under Mac Brown who coached at ISU, instead of the sickening lovefest that always occurred between Ferentz, Stoops, and Snyder that we always had to listen to. I know its meaningless, but psychologically it gives me a better feeling (or it could just be the liquor). Probably because Mac Brown is likable and all the other coaches aren't.

Sometimes you earn it and some times you take it. In this case we should take it.
