I could brag about my worldly travels and experiences that qualifies my informed opinion on Asian cuisne.

Ames has a lot of great Asian restaurants. Particularly for a town of it's size.

CHC in particular may be the best Chinese food I've found anywhere. It's phenomenal.

ANGRY CHICKEN.

I haven't been impressed by any Chinese place in Ames yet. In fact, I haven't been overly impressed with a lot of the food here. But I do agree that for a town this size it does have a lot of Chinese places.

Where do all the Chinese students that attend ISU prefer? It would be interesting to see what they actually think about if the food was authentic or just Americanized. I would guess Cocost and CHC are pretty authentic.

I'd say I've noticed the most at Cocost, CHC, and the Scallion. Those seem to have the most authentic options.

I used to got to Little Taipei on Welch and get the "Ta Chien" Chicken at least once a week when i was in school. That place was awesome.

Little Tapei was my favorite, mostly because I lived real close. General Tsao's with Crab Rangoon.

You have got to be the pickiest college kid. College isnt about eating gourmet banquets, its about being poor and making the most of what you have. What Ames has is several hidden gems that will not only stretch your dollar, but will fill your belly and leave you smiling. There are plenty of food places in Ames that have great food.

Sorry I don't like paying hard earned money for crappy food. Food that I can easily make myself (and better) for about half the price. In Des Moines I can get better food than in Ames for cheaper. If you want to save money, you don't go out to eat. So saying that college is about being poor is a load of crap.

The food might fill my belly, but it will also lose my business.

I think that if you do the math on this you will find it costs WAY more to make chinese food yourself. There are so many ingredients! Plus, if you had tried these Ames restaurants, you would know that Ames has great chinese options at very fair prices. I know I miss going to Little Taipei and CHC now that I don't live in Ames.

I haven't tried CHC, but all the other places that I have been were below average at best. That is why I gave up on trying the Chinese food in Ames. However, Ames does have some good Mexican restaurants.

I think you'll enjoy CHC. When I lived in Ames, it was the only chinese food place I really liked and whenever I come back, I always go there.
As far as mexican food, La Fuente is pretty damn good!

Couldn't agree more.

Personally, I couldn't really tell much of a difference between CoCost, Little Taipei, or May House. I just loved how you could get a pretty good size plate of food for $6 (was $5 when I 1st got to Ames). I also didn't mind hitting up the Mandarin from time to time.

I would say the fact that you can't tell the difference shows how generic it is. It's also sad that Panda Express in the MU is better than the places I've been.

I would say that the fact that multiple people have names a few restaurants and have agreed about the quality and taste of said restaurants shows how picky you are. Give it up man, youre in Ames, Iowa, you are not going to find the world's best Chinese food. God I would hope that your taste in beer is not this "fine tuned".

I struck a nerve over Chinese food. If you want to do this battle let's bring in the facts and unbiased people. Just do a quick google search, and you will find that the one place that is rated high is Chinese Home Style Cooking. If you look at the rest of the reviews, you will see they barely get 3 stars. I guess a lot of college students are "picky".
