chili vs chili con carne - is there a difference?

Have had chili a million times before. Today, I had the chili con carne at the cafeteria. Is there a difference or just a different name? Today's version seemed a little more spicy and tomatoey.

carne means meat. chili con carne is chili with meat in it.
