Castro taken out of the game. It was a double switch, but the move puts the pitcher closer to batting next inning than he would had the double switch not happened...

Hug watch, anyone?

I get where you guys are coming from, that it would be nice to add a reliable 5th starter...but I just don't see how people could think it's the team's biggest need?

4 out of every 5 days the Cubs are sending a good starter out there, where as their bats suck nearly every game.

4 starters are rookies who are going to be huge parts of the future, I'll live with them going through their growing pains this year. Rizzo isn't getting replaced, the Cubs have actually got good production from LF this year, so you're really looking at a CF platoon partner for Fowler or a middle infielder, not a lot of offensive upgrades on the market at those positions at reasonable costs.

Starting to think that Soriano experiment needs to end. 3rd game in a row now he's been knocked around and had not logged a hitless inning yet in 5 appearances. Why isn't Neil Ramirez getting a chance in the spots Soriano has before tonight? I'm starting to wonder if the Cubs know something they aren't disclosing about Ramirez's health because that guy was lights out last year and he really has not been put in a pressure situation since he came of the DL in late June.

That's fair, and I agree with all of it...although I think Baez needs to be called up immediately. He'd at least give them a home run threat with all his strikeouts...also I hate the fact that we have 2 sub .200 backup catchers on our squad.

I think they should stand pat.

-Don't mortage any of the young talent for a 5th arm for the CHANCE at a one game playoff.
-Bring up Baez
-Stop this Schwarber can only catch 3 of 5 days nonsense.
-Throw the farm at Price this offseason
-Trade for a couple utility-type veterans that can hit a bit for low level prospects

Yeah they can DFA Soriano any day, it was worth taking a shot on him but he's done, Rosscup is ready to come back now too.

No point in bringing up Rosscup when you have Wood and Russell as lefties in the pen. I see that La Stella is about to start a rehab stint so that should help the bench depth

Ill believe La Stella is ready to go when I see him on the field at Wrigley, it's been one injury after another for him this year.

Eloy Jimenez was pulled after the 5th inning his game last night without injury or ejection. Something might be up and it'd have to be a pretty significant trade for him to be gone.

Yeah hes a long ways from the major but has huge potential, that's gotta be a trade with decent return if they are moving him.

As a whole the pitching has been great this year. The bats have sucked. The Cubs need to quit worrying about adding a 5th starter so much and get help at the plate. It won't matter what pitcher the Cubs get if they don't step it up in the box.

Team Stats-

Batting Average- .237 (28th out of 30)
Slugging Percentage- .370 (26th out of 30)
Runs- 378 (22nd out of 30)
Strikeouts- 902 (1st of 30- 1st as in the most, despite hitting for almost no power)

Pitching

ERA- 3.47 (7th out of 30)
WHIP- 1.19 (3rd out of 30)
Opponents Batting Average- .240 (3rd out of 30)
K's- 808 (8th out of 30)

Call up Baez RIGHT NOW and don't trade away the franchise, but add a corner outfielder and a utility infielder that can hit .260 without striking out constantly.

Didn't they have that stat last year, too?

A team possessing that stat and being anywhere near .500, let alone above it is extraordinary.

If he's been traded, we'd have an idea where by now.

The Phillies told interested teams to make their best offer today, so maybe he was part of that and they wanted to make sure he didnt get a fluke injury last night.

Yeah it wouldn't surprise me if he was pulled just because he was in an offer made to a team, not necessarily one which was accepted. It's not like there's much value in winning games in Short Season A Ball.

Castro is not playing today, Schwarber is starting in LF, Russell at SS and batting 6th.

The Cubs need to get a CF who is a stud defensively this offseason if they're going to be playing Schwarber and Soler in the corner OF spots. They are going to be brutal defensively otherwise.
