Chicago Bears bought Arlington Heights track only to build next to Soldier Field?

Exactly. I want a suburban stadium that is easy to get to, has somewhat reasonable hotels to stay in nearby and places for tailgating, bars, etc.

I'm a lifelong Bears fan and never in my life have I seen a game at Soldier. Why? Just a giant pain in the ass to get to a game. Give me the suburbs all day. And the lower chances of getting murdered are lower out in the burbs..

Soldier Field is a dump. It's not an NFL level venue at all. Even inside it feels odd. Old and newer not blending well at all.

But at least the game day experience sucks too.

I'd wager that you're much more likely to die while driving through traffic out to the burbs than you are to get murdered on the lakefront

My best friend and his brothers go to the opening game every year...stay in a condo downtown, very nice neighborhood. 2 years ago a guy got shot to death right out front of the place the night they were there. So...yeah I get what your saying on traffic, but I can tell you for a fact dudes be getting murdered down there.

Also, parking would be a MAJOR improvement. The ease to get to a game would go from insanely difficult to going to a Chiefs game.

It’s a city of 3 million. Man up and visit. I’ve been here for years and shocker I’ve never been murdered.

It’s like me saying I’m never going to Principal Park because people have been shot on court ave. It’s a coward take

There was a murder in rural Mystic, IA; are you afraid of rural Iowa too?

It’s 100% a nightmare getting out of soldier. There’s a lot of room for improvements for sure. But it will be even more of a nightmare getting out of AH as everyone will be driving, rather than folks walking or taking the train at soldier.

I understand the appeal to some for a suburb stadium but I can’t stop thinking about how boring it’ll be for visitors, especially at big events
There is no way it will be worse to get in an out of than Soldier. Arlington Park is basically at a hub of highways that will take you anywhere else in the State or out of state for that matter. I'm not saying it will be a breeze, it's still a busy area, but no way will it be worse. And there is already a Metra Train station right there at the park. Plenty of people will take the train. Hell, I would probably take the train if I went to a game at Arlington and I'm literally a 15 minute drive from there.

I think the biggest thing though, is the Entertainment district they want to do. That is just never going to happen on the lakefront or nearby. Soldier is kind of in a dead zone since it's on the Lakefront, surrounded by the museum campus and McCormick Place to the South. It's a hefty walk to even get to a bar or restaurant, let alone set up a whole entertainment district.

I will agree that it sucks though. I've been to games down there, concets, etc. The Stadium is ugly, but the view all around it is pretty spectacular. And if you are used to walking, it can be a really fun day.

Just spent the weekend in Chicago, love the lakefront/museum campus area. The bears leaving the city will suck for the fans that actually live in Chicago. But hey, cars matter more than people so, let's go to parking lot hell instead
Yep bad for them but believe I heard that a majority (like 60+%) of the Bears season ticket holders do live in what's considered the Northern suburbs so guessing most of them would like the move.

You claim you have never been murdered. What proof do you have?

I’ve spent a ton of time visiting downtown Chicago, walking around Grant Park and Streeterville and the theatre district, and riding the subway. I’ve only been murdered three or four times.

Seriously, people worried about getting killed in downtown Chicago need to find more pressing things to worry about. There are definitely parts of town you want to stay out of, but a game at Soldier Field or visiting Michigan Avenue?

As close as you can get to downtown Chicago would be ideal.

But it seems there just isn't the space for a mega-stadium there with attached amenities. Even reusing the old site of Soldier Field after demolition and playing in Champaign for a season or two (which they did in the late 90s during the last renovation) doesn't seem to be a very workable proposal.

Taking what the Rams/Chargers did with SoFi and copy-pasting that to Arlington Heights sounds like it is about as good as they can do. And that's fine. Inglewood is a car-dependent suburban sprawl the same way as that region of Chicago. They have plenty of space for a top-of-the-line stadium with amenities around it for all the Super Bowls, FFs, and Taylor Swift concerts you could imagine. You've even got the Arlington Park Metra station right there... which is going to give plenty of transit access if you run special football trains from downtown or along the route for people to park and ride. Seems sensible enough to me as an option.

So easy to get in and out of the campus area as long as you don't rely on your car. Hotels near by that are an easy walk, and close stops on the Metra and other transit that is cheap.

Yeah, because getting in and out of Truman Sports Complex is super easy and affordable.

I think like anything else in life, its just about managing risk. I love Chicago when I've visited. However, I've stayed in tourist areas with lots of people and didn't walk alone at night. Didn't have any issues. Of course haven't been there in a decade.
