Lose all their rivalries. Also, the grouping they would be put in is total crap. Their current conference would be more competitive than what their NCC would be.
Isn't Forest City a rival? Who would they stop playing?

Their biggest is West hancock. Then throw in lake mills, and belmond.
That seems weird given the size difference. I was shocked looking at the BEDS data for Britt. Lake Mills is just a bunch of potheads. Atleast it used to be.

It would be those 3 with St Ed’s, clarion and Hampton together. So it would be garner and Forest city fighting for division titles basically.

It’ll be interesting to see how Decorah fills in a schedule without a conference.

I’ll predict that a bunch of the UIC schools (especially Waukon and Cresco) will play them in all sports, they just didn’t want that game to be part of the conference standings.

My prediction is that Decorah will end up with a schedule that looks remarkably similar to the one they would have had as a member of the UIC.

I wouldn’t count on it. The Cresco superintendent seems to have beef with Decorah and is also the superintendent at Calmar which is how this whole thing got rolling. Cresco has been scared to compete for some time and wants to be the big school of a smaller town conference. Add to this that this same guy was the president of the NEIC and was actively working against it in that roll and you have some pretty shady ****.

They don’t want Decorah running away with every conference title.

They badly want to beat Decorah.

By kicking Decorah out of the conference but still playing them, they get to be the big fish in the small pond and still get a low-stakes crack at Goliath.

Probably will play some out of state competitions like fellow independent Western Christian.

Aren’t they considering WAMAC too?

Not sure about WAMAC. Would they want Decorah? I think they’d be the biggest school there too.

They’re in such a weird place size-wise.

I don’t know who they would play in neighboring states. Maybe Prairie Du Chien and La Crescent?

Clear creek Amana and Marion are bigger. Most of the other schools are within 100 Beds count or so. I think the state would force WAMAC to take them as they are the only fit enrollment wise.

I would tell Cresco to be careful what you wish for, my town was the big fish 2A school in a 1A conference and won the conference a lot in a bunch of sports but come postseason time would struggle against .500 teams that played tougher schedules. The final straw that made them switch to a conference with 2A and 3A schools was they made the 2A state tournament in baseball one year and had the most wins of any team that made it to state and got the 8 seed because most wins were to 1A schools.

After they switched conferences it was about 3 or 4 years of bottom dwelling in most sports but now they are competitive in everything. You are usually only as good as your competition
