CFTV: Matt Campbell's post-spring ball/pre-draft presser

This is a good listen. About half the time, Campbell sounds completely fed up with college football. And half the time he talks like he likes it. I sometimes wonder if he’s stayed here despite the changes or because of the changes.

For those of you who think Campbell never says anything, give it a listen. This was 28 minutes chock full of stuff.

He's absolutely correct and ASU's coach said the same thing.
I'm biased because I was a walkon but the 105 roster cap is ridiculous. Yeah sure a team could stock up on players as "walkons" but I think it's a far bigger problem is that a kid who's dreamed of playing college football for his favorite team can't do that via a walkon role.
Honestly, most of the time I think Campbell says interesting and useful things. I think people get worked up because he doesn’t say exactly what they want him too. But there’s plenty of good info from him most of the time.
They get worked up because he's not willing to throw his coaches, or players under the bus. So, if an aspect of our team is struggling, and he's asked about it, he's going to dance around the question and give a vague answer so he avoids singling someone out.
Right! Remember in 2021 when he said winning a championship wasn’t the goal or something like that and people lost their damn minds over it? When anyone with critical thinking skills knew he was protecting that senior class and didn’t want them to feel like failures. You can usually tell what he really thinks by reading between the lines.
I dunno. When I played basketball, winning, or scoring, or assists wasn’t my goal. Playing a flawless, excellent game was.
And from a flawless, excellent game, winning would naturally come.

At the very least, current walk ons should have been grandfathered in. Just another WTF decision by the NCAA.

Exactly. Matt has always believed the biggest opponent is never the guys across the field, it's always the guy in the mirror. Being the best possible version of yourself is always the goal, and it's all you can really control. If you can reach that goal the rest will usually take care of itself.
I think that is an outstanding philosophy for life in general.
Loved him talking about how showing recruits the spring ball grind is valuable vs just the "wow" of gameday. Great insight into the type of guys they want and how they go about that process

When he described his recruiting process in Ames it made me think— this is why the guy is a winner. Real and authentic.
