CF--Do you sometimes refer to a neighbor by a group they belong to?

Used to have a neighbor we would only see while driving down the road. He had a white beard, big black eyebrows and always wore a big stocking hat. We called him "the Ayatollah".

If they're hawkeye fans I refer to them as sleazy *** hawkeyes. But other than that not really. At work I say it so much the day Nebraska joined the B1G my boss came up to me and said "I guess we're going to be playing those sleazy *** Hawkeyes now"

We use their last names except for the ones we don't know. Then it's the "people in the blue house", etc, except for the Mexicans behind us who have a car and a washing machine in the back yard. They are really nice people but we call them "the Mexicans" because it seems appropriate due to stereotypes about leaving crap in their yards. There are also some white rents down the block who we call "Whiskey Tango" because they have 7 cars in their two-car garage driveway including one that makes black smoke for the sole purpose of making black smoke.

Whoa! Back the truck up! We had seven vehicles in and around a 2 car garage. One was a big ol' truck, one was an antique (50-something Chevy we called Toad because it was green, lumpy & croaked a lot). The rest were claimed by me, hubby & our teenage boys. We weren't Whiskey Tango...we just all worked outside of our small town, in different directions and/or on different shifts. None of them were on blocks, although Toad probably should have been!

In my job people will say "the old XYZ warehouse." Then I'll say "I'm not from here so I'm not sure where you are referring to." Then they will say, "Well they bought it from Jack Smith in 1976". And then I'll say, "Can I have an address please." And then they'll say "I'm not sure but it's down the street from the Johnson's old place."

Ugh.

You sure you don't live in Texas...out by the live oak that got hit by lightening in '47 and burned to the ground?

The article says it's linked to lung cancer, so hopefully that evens things out a bit.

Except all of use will end up paying for their treatment.

So you're in denial about your whiskey tango-ness? :)

Damn straight I do! I may admit to being a hick of sorts, but I draw the line at WT. For one thing, I'm actually edjumacated. :p

(BTW - if you counted the Bobcat, the Goldwing, the 70's vintage Winnie Chieftan and the two riding mowers, you could bump it up to 12!)

My neighborhood has a large number of Asian families, mostly Chinese American, and I'd be just fine with being the only non-Asian family in the neighborhood. Quiet, friendly, and quiet - just how I like it.

This x 100000000000000. In my neighborhood I have 3 Asian families close by and all 3 are the exact same from my view point. Clean house, clean garage, quiet and well behaved kids, etc.

The town I grew up in is pretty small. We just used their names because we knew them all.

We shared a backyard area in the house I rented last year in Ames. The three houses had their own areas, but we were often all out there at the same time, so it was kind of a common area type thing. Anyway, we didn't really like the people in one of the other houses so we called them the dooshbros. Pretty self explanatory.

Ugh.

That is exactly how my moms family gives directions in rural Tampa county (Garwin area).

For us we have the newly divorced people next door and the country folk who moved to the city.
