Can Iowa State get a 2 seed?

I'm surprised I haven't seen this mentioned yet, a quad 1 win we could pick up is Baylor.

They are currently 32 in the NET, and all we need them to be is 30 to get that January win back to quad 1 status. We should be rooting for them against TCU and Houston this week. I think if they go 1-1, that can get them back to top 30.

Thankfully, I don't think Iowa will fall out of quad 1 status (they are 67). Unfortunately, I don't think UCF can jump from 81 to 75 to get back to quad 1.

The BYU win this week would make you 7-5 in quad 1 games. If Baylor jump a couple spots that's 8-5. That should be good enough to contend for the final 2 seed, regardless of what happens in KC.

Ryan Hammer likes us far more than the committee does. I think we get "dinged" on the resume for lack of Q1 wins - especially away from Hilton (thanks Dayton, Iowa, etc). It's basically just at TTU, and it was before they were good.

I'm sure they'll be some reason why our injuries aren't taken into account as well - I fully expect we will be on the 3 line as our ceiling - regardless of what happens in KC.
I get your logic, but the bolded is not exactly how that works. The win gets better, the better TTU plays and that one doesn't really need any context around it. Besides, TTU was 11-3 when we played them. They've gone 11-3 in the 14 games since we beat them. They've been good all year.

There are teams like Kansas, Duke, Tom Izzo, or North Carolina that can always get a higher seed than what their ranking would support. Kansas could be 12th in the polls but get a 2 seed. They can be 17th in the polls and get a 3. Those teams get favorable placement. On the other hand, Iowa State is a school that gets bypassed for seeding purposes, not elevated. So yes we can get a 2 seed. But we have to earn it, and need teams currently above us to slip up.

Hot take here: if getting a 2 means we’re placed in Auburn’s bracket, I’ll take the 3 (assuming we’re placed elsewhere). It’s not that I’m afraid of Auburn; it’s just that rematch deserves to be played in the Final Four.

That said, I think 3 is our floor and we’re definitely in play for a 2.

I really don’t think it’s as deep as that to be honest. This isn’t the CFP.

hate to say it, but michigan state looks pretty solid on the 2 line with 2 very winnable games left in the regular season....
Agreed. I'm fully expecting for ISU to be a 3 seed in the same region as Michigan State. And if I had to guess, ISU would be in the East region with Duke

But if ISU wants to make a deep run in the tournament, they will have to beat some very quality teams along the way. Not everyone can have that K-State elite 8 run where they played seeds 8, 16, and 5 before losing to an 11 seed for the final 4 (thanks, Sister Jean!)

Yes, they're in the drivers seat if they win out. I'll go as far as to say that they're just about locked into a 2 if they win out.
They have no room for error outside of losing to Houston in the championship game though. Have to at least win all the games leading up to the championship game.

I think we can, but we have to win out at least in the regular season....I'd assume BYU will jump in the rankings today when those are released.

Only thing is, the committee showed us last year that what you do in the conference tournament means nothing. We dominated every team we played in KC, including a really good Houston team, and they put us as the 8th overall seed....we got screwed on selection Sunday for our position...I was fine with a 2 seed but being in the same region as UConn and Illinois was criminal
While I agree we it looked like winning the Big 12 tourney didn't mean much in the eyes of the committee...it's also a case of who are you removing from those #1 spots for ISU to move up...
Maybe this year we will have a little bit more room to move up into that 2 line. But at the end of the day, wherever we're seeded, I'm hoping for matchups that will allow us to play at our best.

Michigan just got run out of their own building by an Illinois team that just got absolutely smoked by Duke. They've been very overrated all year. A&M might be next and have dropped 4 in a row. Kentucky is 10th in their own league. Hard to expect them to be one of the top 8 overall. I think TT, MSU, St. Johns and Wisconsin will be the main competition for the last 2 and the rest of that group will be 3's.
Right now Bracket Matrix has us behind MSU and Wisconsin for the final two seeds and tied with ST John's for the top three seed.

I just want to win every game we can possibly win. If we go 2-0 this week, I will be very happy. It's not that I don't care, but I'm not going to spend much time thinking about seeds or quad 1 record, when I know Iowa State has been screwed before.
