I really enjoyed sledding at the disc golf course south of Towers after it snowed. I wasn't really one for the food service trays - I preferred getting a garbage bag, putting a hole in the bottom, using it as a straight jacket, and throwing myself down the hill. That was good times. I also really liked playing snow football in the old RCA courtyard late at night. I especially remember the guy who caught a pass, went to turn, and ended up falling full force on the chain fence WITH HIS NECK!!! He was perfectly fine - actually jumped up, rolled his neck, and kept playing.

Huge Ice storm in December of 2000, and we got school cancelled. Unbelievable day. Went sledding down our driveday on trays. Unbelievably amazing day.

You sure that wasn't January '01? I remember a "supposed" snow/ice storm that never actually came - ok, it did come, but it didn't justify canceling school over (although I'd gladly take it).

I remember March 2000, weekend before spring break, we got dumped with a foot of snow. That entire week afterwards it was 70 degrees. The first time in my life that I was in a snowball fight in shorts and t-shirt and didn't freeze my *** off ... (I spent Spring Break in Florida, and it was actually warmer in Ames that week than it was in Florida )

During inclement snowy weather, I really enjoyed how the chicks would drop their guard and look at you from under their cap with big brown puppy dog eyes like you actually existed. There is excitement in a good storm that brings humanity together, ummm!

The best ISU winter memory was a nasty storm during the winter of 90-91 that closed down campus so my roommate and I walked the 1 block to Welch Ave and drank beer and played pool for 12 hours and were still home by 10 pm.

I remember that, I was living off campus and got a call from friends in Friley. I went there and we had huge all day party that got way outta hand...too fun!!!!

After the Armageddon Ice Storm last winter, I took my camera out on campus while it was still snowing, and *nobody* was anywhere on campus except for a few folks making sculptures on Central Campus. Filled up two memory cards with photos and made a good Facebook album out of the best ones.

I remember watching the Vikings game this weekend and one of the rookies said he was gonna have somebody drive him to the game because he hasn't been in snow before.

It would be an interesting feel to go for such along period of time in your life never seeing snow and then see something it for the first time outside of movies or tv.

No kidding man, noone from texas or florida wants to drive in that stuff. You see that video in seattle a few years ago or last winter, where none of them knew how to handle it being slick and it turned into a massive wreckage scene?

I always thought it was funny when the girls from warm climates came out in their cute little thin coats to walk to class in the first blizzard. By the next week, they had all purchased parkas.

One of mine was after a heavy wet snow all the tree branches were low and it was cool to walk through campus with all the snow. I did this over break so there was a comfortable calm to the campus and it was very enjoyable

I think the SoCal baseball players were even worse... I don't think Paciorek ever left his dorm in the one winter he spent here...

That was Sidney Rice they were talking about.

This is my favorite part of the first freeze of the winter... you can always tell who the freshman girls are by their lack of winter clothes and their rigid walk as they try not to slip on the ice. :biglaugh:

And now, Deep Thoughts by iowast8fan...

I once thought about how beautiful the untouched snow after a new snowfall looks as it blankets the campus, and the gentle white flakes falling from the sky, each one with a slightly different shape and size, and a hot cup of cocoa in my hands while watching the ducks pass overhead in a perfect V....then I remembered that I don't have a vagina. :)

Wait..... What??

You went to Florida and it was warmer in Ames? That sucks

As for those false alarms... dunno when it happened for you but we had one of those last year.

Favorite place I've had a snowball fight? Inside of Hilton

Yeah last year there was a false alarm for Ames for a supposed Blizzard that never actually made it this far east. However, Areas west of Boone got hammered with a foot of snow and 40 mph winds. Part of the reason they canceled was because of all the faculty that lived farther west. They wanted to make sure they could make it home alright. But, it never did get that bad here.
