if its under the same ownership as the mid 90s they were absolute nazis who deserve to be out on the street.

if not i feel real bad for them.

Also, local competition seems to be good for the industry. It would be a shame if the University Bookstore was our only main local option for books and ISU gear.

I think it was. The guy that owned the place was a little past hardcore in his labor practices.

Pretty sure he watched that parking lot hardcore too and would tow away people left and right.

That location would be a prime time spot for a Trader Joes, even though they don't go into smaller towns that often.

Sigler's on Main recently sold out all their non-ISU clothing in order to focus on ISU clothing.

Sigler is also relocating, I wonder if they might consider moving in there. Although I'm not sure its such a good idea to be right across from the bookstore.

Such a good place to buy your books. They always had their used books cheaper than accross the street and if you turned them in fast you would get more money back too. Had some sore of teird system for returns that worked out well if you played it correctly.

a little fyi - the bookstores make almost nothing on books, almost all the profit comes from clothing/junk they sell. my wife used to work in the university bookstore acct department.

New books I presume? Their buyback programs are where I expect them to bring in the money on books. Of course, I think UBS might have a third party do their buyback program.

New books lose money. Used books subsidize that loss.

What happened to the 40% wholesale discount that bookstores used to get from publishers? What is the average markup on a new textbook? I can't believe that they are loss leaders? Someone must be figuring in some other support-related service costs. Surely the sale price of a book is great than the price the bookstore bought it for.
